CNN: no official count on the number of protesters in Jena. I wonder why?
don't they normally give a count on these types of things?

isn't there normally an official estimate?

you can bet there was 'homeland security' going on.

just curious....

1. Just like anti-war protests. They might as well not bother. Here's the skinny:

Police estimate 60,000 in Jena

"Law enforcement said there have been no problems of “any significance” so far during the rally that brought tens of thousands into the small community. State Police said the crowd was larger than they had expected, with their estimates as high as 60,000.

"Marchers were respectful and gracious, many of the homeowners on the march route said.

"Sharpton reminded those gathered that they should respect the community and do nothing harmful in the name of Mychal Bell.

“No violence,” he stressed. “Not even an angry word. They will try to provoke you. You have to stand strong.”

5. National media is minimizing what started this situation
The reality of the situation is what started it was a threat against African Americans that went to that school. There is no ambiguity as to what those nooses represented

14. "strange fruit"
this so outraged me that if I had been able to go to the protest, I would have. Being a caregiver and living in NorCal, it wasn't to be.

2. i saw Kyra Phillips on earlier today and my god she was so busy backslapping
herself for doing some real reporting and this "Is why we went to journalism school". It was congratulations fest between her and the other anchor on the scene. I'm so dumb, i thought reporting was supposed to be about the story.

3. I saw that this morning.
The anchor asked the on-scene reporter about the crowd and he replied, "I can't really say".

Or something to that effect. The cameras weren't even really trying to capture the crowd.

I thought it very strange.

9. Not strange for a propaganda outfit shot through with Bushie Infiltrators.
Those crowds were "locked-out" for the same reason the Phony Saddamn Statue Tumbling avoided crowd shots.

Because to show popular support in an anti-Bush cause is simply not permitted, unless it is deeply suppressed and disparaged.

10. Speaking of that Statue...
Do you know that someone actually sold it?

Harlan Crow (Dallas, Trammell Crow Cos.) told me he bought it, but it is too hot to bring to the States.

But he would not tell me who had sold it to him.

4. 15,000 to 20,000 is the estimate on CNN right NOW
This makes me very happy! I was pepper-sprayed during Bush's visit to So. Oregon just prior to the last election. Not much national publicity about it. Too bad.

It is TIME for the South to give up their Confederate B.S. Sorry folks, I am from the Pacific Northwest, and we just don't have these racial problems like the South.

South! Time to give it up! Grow up!

6. PBS said several thousand but not the 50 thousand expected
Don't know who counted for their reporter.

What I find interesting is that this protest is correctly being discussed while the anti-war protests receive a few seconds with little analysis.

said 60-70,000

You can subtract whatever you feel is the appropriate BS cushion.

It was a very large crowd

First questions uttered by a breathless MSNBC anchor was about the violence level and arrests. :eyes:
