That Cop liked it. That really pissed me off seeing that since I find the Taser a valuable tool when use correctly.

He was too fat and lazy to bend over and pull her up.

8. Disgusting.
Taser use is out of control. It's become a substitute for proper police procedure. There was a deplorable tasering incident at my kids' school just this week. I am sick about it. I had hoped I was overreacting, but apparently some of the staff who witnessed the event are sickened and furious at the cop's behavior.

19. This happened at your child's school???
They can taser kids at school?

These things are disgusting!

I hope to God that people sue and get millions. It's the only way that
this barbaric brutality will stop.

It is such a horrific thing to watch. If I was tased, I would not settle
down. I'd be freaking out! I would be afraid that I would die. I'm not
a physiologist, but wouldn't your body release a ton of adrenaline and
go into "fight or flight"? You'd automatically want to flee, because
your body would sense danger. It would be almost impossible to not scream
or want to run away!

I hope everyone is ok at your child's school. What a traumatic thing
for young people to witness.

24. Yes. I am sick about it.
I'm trying to get more information, but what I do know is that the school called the police when a female student made a remark in class about wanting to kill herself. She threatened no other student, no teacher. Her father committed suicide several years ago. I am not sure of the sequence of events after that, but I do know that a local cop with a reputation of being overly aggressive, shows up, the girl's mother shows up and the girl's boyfriend is in the office with her trying to calm her down.

The girl reportedly became very agitated when the cop showed up, refused to go willingly with the cop (not sure where) he ends up breaking her nose in an attempt to handcuff her, her boyfriend jumped on the cop's back and was tasered numerous times, the mother ends up restrained on the floor, pleading to be released to help her daughter who is choking on her own blood. The boyfriend is screaming and has lost control of his bowels after being tasered repeatedly. There was "blood everywhere" and the overpowering smell of human excrement according to a witness I know who walked into the office at that point. The boy is in a juvenile detention center. The girl is in a psych ward. I can't help but think that a better outcome could have been possible.

I don't have good feelings about how the situation was handled. I have a child with autism who attends that school, and have had nightmares about her having a behavioral meltdown and the police being called. My daughter does beautifully when her behavior plan is followed, but every once in a while she becomes upset about something. She is now at the point that she talks about her feelings rather than acting out, but that fear is still in the back of my mind.

Our school district is right-wing hell, so I doubt that too many parents will have any concerns about this....unless it happens to THEIR child.

32. This is really awful...
...and I'm so sorry that it happened at your school.

You are right to say, "a better outcome could have been possible". Someone who is suicidal should not
be forced to go with the police. The police officer should have helped calm the girl down with the
assistance of the mother. Why on Earth was she handcuffed?? If someone is suicidal, they are upset.
Obviously. Why did they have to send an aggressive cop out there? She's probably traumatized due
to this event. I don't mean to sound sue happy, but I hope she sues. There is no reason for this.

And these tasers are taking the place of healthy dialog and rational discourse. Really bad cops probably
over use them because they have rage issues and no communication or social skills. It's the easy way
out to just zap someone.

What appalls me is that these things have killed people before. Why on Earth are we still using them,
knowing that they can kill people. It's really disturbing.

It's no wonder that this girl was afraid when the cop showed up. With all of these stories about tasers
and police brutality many people are afraid. I hope this girl is getting help with a trusted therapist.

I hope this got plenty of attention in your local media.

I can understand your feelings about your child. I have a first grader who is very expressive and
she gets emotional sometimes too. It is frightening to think that if they get upset, that there are
lazy cops armed with tasers out there. I do understand.

37. The media reported only the cop's side of the story.
There was no mention of the girl's injuries, or of the mother being restrained. Because both of the kids involved are minors, the media probably doesn't know their identities. I hope the parents come forward, but they are probably overwhelmed dealing with their own personal crises at this point.

Here is the story in my local paper:
http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/14155285/detail.html

The local police work with kids in the communities to engender trust. An incident like this destroys that trust.

9. These cops have become lazy.
They're not supposed to use the taser just to subdue someone. It should only be used on suspects who are a danger to others or themselves. And they certainly aren't supposed to be tasering people over and over again.

That cop was big enough to subdue her, handcuff her and put her in the car. He just didn't want to do it.

Since cops are using tasers as a too convenient weapon to use to subdue children, the elderly, people in wheelchairs, etc., then maybe they need to stop using them.

30. Police now dole out punishment.
They're suppose to uphold the law and bring in suspects when that law is broken and the court is suppose to render a verdict and hand down punishment. But now they no longer arrest and apprehend, they punish. Say what you will about Rodney King or that whole incident, but the video clearly shows he was not arrested but punished.

used indiscriminently to punish people who, for whatever reason, dare to question authority. They ought to be banned outright since apparently cops can't be trusted with them.

he was beaten, tasered, hog tied, carried by his restraints, spit bag over his face, pepper sprayed in the face under the spit bag, restrained in a restraint chair, water tortured, beaten some more

this man died at the hands of the police, the jailers in the booking area.

The main aggressor was convicted of civil rights violations resulting in death and 9 other guards have plead guilty to abuses. Many of the 9 have told investigators that they participated or knew of over 150 beatings.

26. That is not the "Norm"....for a Sheriff's Department
but the rare exception....The Taser was not the problem at all in this case. The abusive restraint/beating indeed killed him.

We will see more Taser events because there simply are more Tasers in use today. Even the Forestry Department has them, why?...I have no clue. There needs to be a permit or some form of standardized use license carry a Taser for Professional Use which includes documentation of each use for a review board if needed...

27. Go do some research
the increase of guard on inmate/detainee violence has increased. It is just not reported in the MSM. This was the norm for this Sheriff's Department as it had been going on for years and, as the guards admitted, hundreds of such abuses occurred. It was sport for them, the drunks and infirmed and those that couldn't speak English. It was the guards way to show the inmates who was boss and what would happen if they messed up. Shortage of man power because of the cuts in federal funding available to the local/state law enforcement means resources available to the jails are the first cut.

And don't come in here and tell me about tasers, you and I have gone round and round about this. Jailers should not be armed, arming jailers only give inmates another weapon to use against the jailers.

Tasers are not necessary tools for law enforcement. They are hazardous and most of the time they are used to punish, not gain control or subdue.

33. There needs to be restrictions on when they can be used...
People should not be tasered because the cop doesn't like what they are doing.

You shouldn't be able to taser someone when you can easily put them in handcuffs.

Tasering is being used as punishment, in the same way a farmer uses a cattle prod
to keep animals in line. It's being used as negative reinforcement for speaking out,
asking questions or for expressing emotions. Tasering should only be used in life-threatening
situations, when the lives of the cop or bystanders are threatened. It should be an
alternative to a gun, not a device you use on someone because you don't like what they
just said.

It's to the point that if you even ask the wrong question--you are tasered. What the hell, are
we supposed to be devoid of human emotion?

These sadistic, weak, lazy cops are pitiful and disgusting. I hope all of them
are sued into oblivion and made a mockery on the public stage. What they did
to this girl is disgusting.

We are not animals, but these shitty police officers sure are!!

Why isn't this deemed cruel and unusual punishment??????????

38. We tried cattle prods one time.

You can not always get cattle to go where you need them without resorting to a certain amount of force. Some get really difficult, so we thought we'd try the cattle prod.

Turns out cattle go absolutely freaking nuts when you stick 'em with a prod. Who'd of thunk it?

So the cattle prods went into the trash. I will never understood those who use the things more than once. And it is not just our personal experience. I saw them used repeatedly at the stock yards. Same problem. They are HERD animals. Get one moving in the right direction and a hundred will compliantly follow. But not when they are getting prodded. Then they will run, jump and fight in every direction so that the handlers have to fight each individual bovine every step along the way. Gee, that must be so much more easier and faster than HERDing them. Idiots.

When I see a person like this get tasered and jump up I don't think, "look, she is resisting arrest" I know she is just reacting normally to being prodded.
