SEQUIM - It was time to say the Pledge of Allegiance, but the group was hamstrung. Nobody could find a flag.

"We scrambled around until we found a little flag pin," said Clint Jones, recalling a Clallam County Charter Review Commission meeting of a few months ago. Pledging allegiance to the pin seemed silly, to say the least. So Jones, a 79-year-old retired opera singer, seized the opportunity to advance a new version of the Pledge.

This one skips the flag's symbolism and goes straight to the U.S. Constitution. At a Democratic Party meeting earlier this month, Jones and 40 standing members recited:

"We, the people, pledge allegiance to the Constitution and Bill of Rights of the United States of America and the Republic, which protect and guarantee our life, liberty, pursuit of happiness and the freedom of choice to all, regardless of race, religion or economic status and equality of gender."..(more@link)

3 cheers for Pledging Allegiance to the Constitution and Bill of Rights!

6. Indeed it is not a progressive community overall. Has some, but
also has mill workers, old loggers, salt of the earthites. Hey KT2000, I sent you a pm.

11. Me too (obviously), pledge to what matters and realize the flag only represents
the country based on the Constitution, not the other way around.

14. YES! There's a pledge I can get behind.
If for no other reason than it forces the Cons to... Oh, nevermind. Bush already took that oath.

But yahoo anyways. I love it.

15. Shorten it to this
"We, the people, pledge allegiance to the Constitution and Bill of Rights of the United States of America and the Republic, which protect and guarantee our life, liberty, pursuit of happiness and the freedom of choice to all

and I think you have a winner

16. Still, in a Democracy...
in a Democracy, it is the people who should be pledged to by the government, not the other way around.

17. here's your 5th vote and...
Your fine OP makes me happier than drinking a fith but...

Artist: Nichols Joe
Song: Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off
Album: III

She said, "I'm goin out with my girlfriends..Margaritas at the Holiday Inn." Lord have mercy, my only thought, was tequila
makes her clothes fall off.

I told her put an extra layer on, I know what happens when she drink Patron. Her closets missing half the things she bought,
yeah tequila makes her clothes fall off.

She'll start by kicking outta her shoes, lose an earring in her drink. Leave her jacket in the bathroom stall, drop a
contact down the sink.

Them panty-hose ain't gonna last to long, if the DJ puts BonJovi on. She might come home in a table cloth, yeah tequila
makes her clothes fall off. (Whoa-Ho)

She can handle any champaigne brunch, a bridal shower with bacardi punch, jello shooters full of smirnoff, but tequila makes
her clothes fall off.

She'll start by kicking outta her shoes, lose an earring in her drink. Leave her jacket in the bathroom stall, drop a
contact down the sink.

She don't mean nothing, she's just having fun, tomorrow she'll say, "Oh what have I done?" Her friends will joke about the
stuff she lost, yeah tequila makes her clothes fall off, oh tequila makes her clothes off..Oh tequila makes her clothes fall
off

excessive drinking also makes my "clothes fall off," before they dress me in orange and toss me into a cell!
