So, this bird walks into a store . . . . . .

A seagull in Scotland has developed the habit of stealing chips from a neighborhood shop.

The seagull waits until the shopkeeper isn’t looking, and then walks into the store and grabs a snack-size bag of cheese Doritos.

Once outside, the bag gets ripped open and shared by other birds.

The seagull’s shoplifting started early this month when he first swooped into the store in Aberdeen, Scotland, and helped himself to a bag of chips. Since then, he’s become a regular. He always takes the same type of chips.

Customers have begun paying for the seagull’s stolen bags of chips because they think it’s so funny.

Gull Shoplifter Caught on Camera, Film at 11

:spray:

Upon thought: I wonder what would happen if the managers switched the types of chips around?

Would the gull look for and find its 'favorite'?

If this is still going on, it might be a neat test for the gull...

"Dee dee doo dee doo dumm...I'm just a bird, don't mind me...I'm just out for a stroll....Oh!...Looky here.....GOT IT!

HEY FELLAS!"

If he has any buddies that are as smart as he is, bags of chips in convenience stores all over the city will soon be on higher shelves.

On edit to add that Booinblue beat me to this rather amusing characterization by 14 hours!

Ah well...i've known i should read more of a thread before posting.

where it becomes easier for a bird to eat prepackaged food rather than do what nature intended it to do.

turning the worlds animals into one fat ass at a time.

All kinds of animals prefer human junk food to their natural food sources. Probably for the same reasons we do. Bears are especially notorious for stealing processed foods while leaving the healthy stuff untouched.

For some reason I skipped this thread all day yesterday, thinking by the title it would be a lame -- or maybe even funny -- joke.

What a treat! Made me laugh out loud. Something sorely needed right about now...

75. I worry that poor Sam is getting too much sodium in his diet.
Those chips are probably loaded with trans fats, too.

I mean, he doesn't even glance at the nutritional information on the label.

Trans-fats, now they may be an issue...

is that a reference to the simpsons where bart in a dream sequence does testing for a cola brand? (in that case i think it had a pleasant aftertaste)

112. Yes! A Simpsons reference, one of my favorites!
"Some monsterism"... Absolutely hilarious.

And I wonder if people will think these birds are cute when they escalate to swiping T-Bone steaks... Chips, funny. Steaks, not funny.

Alfred Hitchcock, really not funny.

Cool story!

92. Wish the birdie had better taste in food
Not very nutritious. Could end up with weak legs if this the Doritos are a main staple.

Geez.. is this comment becoming waaay too serious?

I'm one that almost always thinks about how healthy or unhealthy something is. Little animals and kids bring out the protective side...

Just rescued two abandoned kittens -- a wild domestic type cat had them in our pole barn and then she just disappeared. We waited 16 hours but they little ones were screeching with anxiety and had begun to get weak. We thought we would just bottle feed them until they were strong enough to give to the no-kill animal rescue.

Yeah right. Now we're afraid nobody will take as good care of them as we can... so we're keeping them.

Bottle feeding tiny kittens is a mind-blowing experience.

100. Ha! You're not alone...
I thought about that too.
I hope he gets to eats other, healthier things as well!!

I've never bottle fed any abandoned kittens, but i have fed and nurtured wild baby birds several times.
(only AFTER making sure they were indeed abandoned. Except I had one baby mockingbird who couldn't fly yet, who's parents did feed him during the day. Because i couldn't locate the nest, at dusk i would bring him in for safe keeping, and at dawn i'd return him to a safe spot outside where his parents could continue the feeding. This arrangement worked out quite well! Once he was able to fly, nature took its course.)

109. That's hysterical
On a beach in Delaware a year or two ago I watched a seagull get itself a prize. A family who had been on the beach in the morning left their gear behind to return later...probably after lunch. One of the kids left an unopened pack of cheese crackers in a sandal. A gull perched on the sandal strap and opened the cracker with it's beak. It worked so diligently to get the cellophane off the crackers I didn't have the heart to shoo it. The other gulls circled and landed on the sand just in time to share in the feast once the package was opened and I got a good laugh.

115. LOL! This so reminds me of the time my son and I were
visiting friends in Florida about nine years ago and we were staying in a hotel right on a beach. Our room was on the top floor, and had a balcony. My son, being all of seven years old, was eating a bag of ranch Doritos and stepped out onto the balcony to look out at the beach and the ocean while he ate. The seagulls started swooping around and he impulsively threw out a dorito at them, which one grabbed and ate. The next thing he knew he was surrounded by the birds, they flew and swooped and some even landed next to him. He got such a kick out of it that he didn't even mind that he ended up giving them most of his bag of doritos. He got another bag the next day so he could do the same thing.
