McCain loses another staffer
Jonathan Martin
September 17, 2007

Another aide at John McCain's campaign headquarters quit last week. Friday was the last day for Robert Terra, who logged unhuman hours manning the senator's war room.

A protege of McCain's former rapid response director Matt David, Terra may join his mentor over at Freedom's Watch, the pro-war advocacy group that is seeking to go toe-to-toe with the MoveOns of the world on issues related to national security.

McCain's camp declined to comment on Terra's departure, but a source close to the campaign said the aide planned to go when David quit along with others in the communications shop this summer.

"He agreed to stay through the transition and did an amazing job of making sure the press shop won’t miss a beat," said this source.

Terra trained two interns before leaving and they will take time off from their studies to staff and run the war room.

~snip~

For all the good press he's received on his "No Surrender" tour, McCain still faces considerable obstacles in his effort to win the nomination. Chief among them are organization and money. While he has solid operatives and backers on the ground in the three early states, his national headquarters continues to be hollowed out. And all his time this month doing town hall meetings has taken away precious hours that could be devoted to fundraising. He'll almost certainly still show debt when he files his report next month, raising anew questions about whether he can afford to compete on the airwaves and if he'll have to tap into public funding.

uhc comment: He's missing voters also, but I guess Mr. Martin was busy and forgot to mention it.

1. McCain's going to be lucky if he makes it to Iowa or New Hampshire
People are fleeing his campaign and he's out of money. I imagine he'll limp over the line at New Hampshire and politely drop out, and perhaps try to angle for a VP slot.
