If Bush and his gang keep calling it the "Democrat" party...
Don't you think that the Democrats should start referring to them as "repukes"? or something? But then the media would say we are being "discourteous."

9. I didn't, until I noticed that in this country it seems to let them run rampantly
over us. It apparently works, such as it is. Being polite just gets us stepped on more. We never get credit for it.

11. Can't recall the Congressman who called it the "Republic" party
... just to be annoying, but it's been done.

Of course, we're not so childish and stupid as to tolerate such silliness from our President. If a Democrat starts pulling that crap, I'll call him/her out on it. I know it's asking too much for Goopers to do it.

23. Anthony Weiner, NY. LINK:
Last February, Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-New York), the great up-and-coming legislator from Brooklyn and Queens, mocked the Republican habit of referring to the Democratic Party as the "Democrat Party" by repeatedly referring to the GOP as the "Republic Party" on the floor of Congress.

Rep. Weiner, who was once Jon Stewart's roommate, finished second in the 2005 NYC mayoral primary and is considered a frontrunner for mayor in 2009.

19. Sometimes you have to use one syllable words
so that their minds can grasp the concept. It's no fun insulting someone who doesn't understand that they've been insulted. That only works as an in joke that the butt of the joke doesn't get.

6. I heard Chimpy say "Democrat Party" yesterday--so childish. This is
politics taken to a new low, when our President deliberately distorts the name of the opposing political party in a gesture of disrespect. How's that uniting, not dividing thing working out?

10. Bush is a jerk.
That's his excuse. Why would we want to sink to his level and the level of all the other jerks in the GOP? Just because we can? That's not a good enough excuse. At least for our elected officials.

Besides there's a huge difference between a bunch of anonymous people making fun of the Repulbicans on a message board to the PResident of the United States acting like an ignorant fool.

15. We need to always...
...call them the Republic Party. I know it's not as fun as Republicons (but that only works in written form, you can't hear the difference, and if you try and stress the difference, it just sounds weird), not as cute as Repukes (but that is not a real word). We need a real word, and not only that, just lopping off the last 2 letters is just what they are doing. And it's irritating, just like their use of "Democrat Party" is, it grates on the ears. And they know, every time it is misused like that, just exactly why it is being misused.

I try and always call them Republics, and the Republic Party.

26. But you know as well as I how the Orwellian Double-Standard works
Edited on Fri Sep-21-07 09:57 AM by tom_paine
I still stand agape even as I watch it in action for at least the thousandth time.

Here are the rules, and they really are very simple...as befits a society rapidly transitioning into tyranny and totalitarianism.

Becuase the Bushies, among other things, have a co-ordinated propaganda operation which simply dwarfs anything the Democrats have - and yes, the prefereble option would be that neither side use these tactics. Because of this, The Mighty Wurlitzer can, even now after all this time, instantly take control of the National Dialogue and chatter about whatever nonsense the Bushies wish to discuss for almost however long they wish to discuss it.

The Democrats know they are in yet another no-win situation, which is the kind of situation Totalitarianism seeks to place it's opposition in (truthfully, so do other forms of politics, but not nearly so ruthlessly and vehemently) where the Democrats would be nuked by the "Liberal Media" dancing to the Bushie Tune, as it always does, for being so "trivial" and "petty" as to pursue such an issue whenthere are real problems on the table.

The converse however, is not true due to the presence of, among other things, The Mighty Wurlitzer (Bushie Sub-Media and Lie-Laundry) and Democratic Leadership's FEAR of it. If the Democratic Leadership (and yes, Olbermann mentioned Bush's use of Democrat Party last night - HOORAY - perhaps with enough people in the media talking about it, the Dems may find the strength to open their mouths about this...but then they'd have to open their mouths about the Mighty Wurlitzer and this they are unwilling to do) dares to start calling them the Republic Party, which is only about...ohhhhh, say TWO DECADES overdue, the Mighty Wirlitzer will take the opposing position, and trumpet it into an OJ-length discussion that succeeds by repetition.

You know, I always knew intellectually that modern totalitarianism like Nazis, Soviets, Pinochet's followers, and Bushies (in scale from most vioent to least violent) used the media with incredible psychological soiphistication. I read my Farenheit 451, Brave New World and my Orwell back in the 70s and 80s, chuckled to myself at the impossibility of such and Thankd God I lived in a free nation, not a nation like described in those books.

Watching it in action from within was something that, until 2000, was only a part of my worst nightamres, and too remote a possibility to even consider seriously.

Heh heh. The joke's on me and you and all of us.
