Got this in the mail yesterday from Howard Dean.
Dear Fellow Democrat:

Please take a few minutes to complete and return the 2007 Grassroots Survey of Democratic Leaders that I have enclosed for you.

I am asking you to take part in this survey because, as a Democratic leader in your community, your insights about the critical issues facing our nation are important to us.

By participating in this survey, you will give the DUNC a greater understanding of the views of Democrats in your community.

Your opinions will help us continue to build the Democratic Party into a national force that can win anywhere, including the reddest of red states.

And, your involvement will help our Party tackle tough issues such as the war in Iraq and making health care more affordable ... because the results of this survey will give the DUNC a better understanding of the views of Party members across the country.

But to include your responses in the survey tabulation, I must ask you to complete and return your poll within the next 72 hours.

And when you return your survey, I urge you to show your commitment to our Party by becoming a contributing member of the Democratic National Committee with a generous membership gift of $25, $35, or even $50.

I'm asking for your financial help today because we Democrats must join together to get America back on track ... to fix the mess created by George W. Bush and his Republican cronies in Congress ...

... and to build a national Democratic Party that never rests and never concedes a single vote to the Republicans.

Make no mistake: The American people have had it with President Bush and have made it clear to the Democrats that if we show up, work hard, and ask for their votes, we can win in any part of the country and give ordinary people a voice and real power at all levels of government.

That's what our 50 State Strategy is all about, and that's why I'm counting on you to become a part of this groundbreaking effort by joining the DUNC today as we build toward taking back the White House in 2008.

Not long ago, no one imagined Democrats could win in so-called "red states" like Kansas, Ohio, Colorado, and Indiana.

But with our historic 50 State Strategy we're doing it, and re-building our Party from the ground up in every part of the country, not just in a handful of battleground states. Just as important, we are speaking out for our values every single day, not just in the closing months of presidential campaign years.

In fact, we had Democratic Party organizers on the ground one year before the 2006 elections - and the results are clear for all to see:

A six-seat swing in the Senate, giving Democrats the majority. A 31-seat gain in the House, and the first woman Speaker in U.S. history. Six new governorships giving us a majority, and control of 57 chambers in state legislatures - the largest shift since 1994.

With our proven blueprint for success, our challenge is to take the non-stop, nationwide organizing at the heart of our 50 State Strategy to the next level ... and lay the groundwork for more Democratic victories from the local level right up to the White House in 2008.

We will continue to build our Party every day. But how much can we do on the ground throughout all 50 states depends on you.

That's why I'm asking you to make your voice heard right now by completing your survey and returning it to the Democratic National Committee with a generous membership donation.

The fact is, in the investments we have made in grassroots organizing have made our Party a winner again, earned us the trust of the American people, and put us in an excellent position to take back the White House.

All that's missing is the energy, commitment, and support you can provide as the newest member of the Democratic National Committee.

That's why I urge you to return your 2007 Grassroots Survey of Democratic Leaders and a DNC membership contribution today. Thank you in advance for your generosity and commitment to our Party.

Sincerely,
Governor Howard Dean, M.D.
Chairman

P.S. Completing your survey and returning it with a membership donation to the Democratic National Committee is the most effective way you can keep our Party fighting for America's families.

Please do your part - and don't forget to respond within the next 72 hours so we can include your responses in our survey results.

Standard fund raising letter - but now comes the survey:

1. Which of the following issues is the most important to you? please rank from 1-10 with "1" being the most important to you.

-Improving public education
-Protecting the environment
-Iraq War
-Economic/tax policy
-Reproductive freedom
-Social Security reform
-Ethics in government
-National energy policy
-Stem cell research
-Other _____________________________

My #1 is impeaching the bastards in the WH, the ENDING the Iraq War. Everything else is tertiary at this point.

2. When do you believe there should be a withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq?
-Immediately
-Sometime in 2007
-Sometime in 2008
-Other _____________________________

Immediately. The longer we are there the worse it will get.

3. Do you support increased defense spending to fight the war on terrorism?
-Yes, we need a stronger military to stop terrorist threats around the globe.
-No, the money should be spent on domestic needs like education and health care.

The question is framed from a GOP-viewpoint, and is therefor biased against the Democratic Party. Terrorism is a LAW ENFORCEMENT issue.

4. When decisions about Social Security are being made, what do you think is most important
-Keeping Social Security as a program with a guaranteed monthly benefit.
-Allowing younger workers to decide for themselves how their Social Security contributions are invested.
-Both guaranteed benefits and investments are important.

The question is framed from a GOP-viewpoint, and is therefor biased against the Democratic Party. If your objective is to destroy Social Security, the quickest & easiest way would be to allow young people to pull cash out and piss it away in the stock market.

5. In your view, what is the best way to ensure health care coverage for all Americans?
-Tax credits to help employers provide health care coverage for their employees.
-Medical savings accounts that let families set aside money for health care costs.
-A government-run system where everyone is guaranteed health care coverage.

Why is this questions here? If you want to ensure health care for all Americans, then that's what you do. Anything that enriches the insurance or banking industries at the expense of people who need health care will doom the plan to failure.

6. What is the single best approach to reducing our dependence on foreign oil?
-Providing incentives to encourage energy conservation.
-Increasing domestic energy production from sources like coal and nuclear power.
-Investing in renewable energy sources like solar power, wind energy and ethanol.
-Requiring automakers to produce more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Nationalize the oil companies.

7. Do you support new tax cuts targeted at working families?
-Yes, with our economy struggling, working families need a tax break.
-No, additional tax cuts at this time will only worsen the federal deficit.

We need a few decades of trickle-up economics.

8. Should the Democratic Congress put a high priority on stopping American manufacturing jobs from being "outsourced" to overseas workers?
-Yes, the manufacturing jobs being lost are essential to our economy.
-No, American consumers benefit from cheaper goods made overseas.

Not everyone can be a stock broker. A diverse economy is essential to a healthy economy.

9. Do you believe Medicare should be allowed to re-import less expensive drugs from Canada to make prescription medication more affordable for senior citizens?
-Yes, this will help millions of seniors who struggle to pay for their prescriptions.
-No, it is too risky, as the safety of these drugs can't be guaranteed.

The question is framed from a GOP-viewpoint, and is therefor biased against the Democratic Party. Why are drugs in Canada - the exact same drugs from the exact same factories in the exect same bottles that are sold in the US - 50%-80% less costly? BECAUSE THEY HAVE PRICE CONTROLS ON THEIR MEDICATIONS!!! And to say that price controls hurt Big Pharma is bullshit. If they weren't making money selling their drugs in Canada - even with the price controls - they wouldn't be selling them there.

10. Thinking about the issue of education, which of the following is your number one priority? Please select only one answer.
-Funding for early education programs like Head Start
-Funding for elementary and middle school education to reduce class sizes.
-Funding for tuition aid programs to make college more affordable.

Pick just one?

11. What is your opinion about a woman's right to a safe and legal abortion?
-I support a woman's right to choose.
-I support a woman's right to choose, but believe we need some restrictions, such as parental notification laws and mandatory waiting periods before having an abortion.
-I oppose a woman's right to choose.

Why is this question here? Our party should support the Constitution. NOT supporting the Constitution is what the other guys do.

12. Do you support President Bush’s decision to veto legislation that would provide funding for embryonic stem cell research?
-Yes, I oppose federal funding for medical research of this type.
-No, Bush’s veto of embryonic stem cell research funding shows how out of touch he is with the majority of Americans who support this life-saving research.

Why is this question here? Our party should support free scientific inquiry. NOT supporting science is what the other guys do. And to place it immediatly after the abortion question maintaines the GOP-created myth that there's a linkage between the two.

13. What is your opinion about our environmental laws in America?
-We need stronger environmental laws to protect out air and water, clean up toxic waste, safeguard endangered wildlife and habitat, and combat global warming.
-Our environmental policies are about right, no new laws are needed.
-Our environmental laws burden businesses and hurt our economy.

After 7 years of allowing Bush to pile shit up in your living room, what do you think we should do about it?

14. To help make progress on issues like those discussed in this survey, will you join the Democratic National Committee as a contributing member today?
-Yes – go to next question.
-No.

To make progress the Democratic Party has to start behaving like the party of Democrats, not GOP-lite. After the disgraceful treatment by the US Senate of Americans exercising their right to petition the government and of free speech, my money will be going to their victims. MoveOn is getting my money.

Here's the rest. I'm not saying you write the DUNC or call them to say you're NOT going to give them money, but here's the info anyway:

15. If you answered “Yes” to question 14, please indicate the membership level at which you will join the DNC today.
-$25
-$35*
-$50
-$100
-Other $ _____
*Please consider a gift of this amount or greater. Thank you for your support.
