No, I haven't forgotten about all of you.
I saw that thread yesterday and the three admins all talked a little last night about whether we should say something. And we decided to leave it be overnight and then decide in the morning. And this morning we decided not to. The truth is that I don't think you all need me to tell you how to think and how to feel. And even though things happen sometimes that can be really frustrating, and even though things can get pretty tense on occasion, I believe in my heart-of-hearts that Democratic Underground is just fine. And by Democratic Underground I don't mean a bunch of ones and zeros blipping around on a few computers somewhere on the East Coast. I mean all of you, the thousands upon thousands of amazing people who are the heart and soul of this place.

My kid is sick and my parents are visiting right now, so unfortunately I can't stick around. But I wanted you all to know that the admins care about what happens here on DU. And more importantly, we wanted you all to know that no matter what happens we still have faith in all of you. This is a community of great people. Of good people. Of resilient and caring and decent people. You'll be fine.

Oh, and while I have your attention I suppose I should point out that MoveOn is also just fine. And if the United States Senate ever feels like censuring Democratic Underground, well, let's just say that it wouldn't be the end of the world...

18. Dear Skinner,
It's raining and we can't go outside. The water is rising. There's been an outbreak of Hep-C and mono. Someone is spreading rumors that the kid in Bunk 19-B spanks his monkey all night long. Tomorrow we were supposed to go to the top of the mountain, but our counselor got arrested for pot posession, so we'll probably have to stay in our cabins all day and read comic books over and over. The washers and dryers are all broken, so we'll be bringing home 2 weeks worth of dirty laundry. We haven't had anything to eat for 2 weeks except cereal and spaghettios. Wait a minute. It's stopped raining...gee dat's bettuh...Mudduh, Fadduh, kindly disregard this lettuh...

Seriously, Skinner, we don't expect you and the admins to save the world. It's our world. We've all gotta save it.

34. BLeever had a great post on this topic, a must read. Good Choice SKinner.
We need to have more of our community run for office. We need to take over the Government oursleves, if we expect it to run 1/2 way decently.

1) You get an "A" if you run for office.

2) You get a "B" if work in a campaign.

3) You get a "C" if you donate.

4) You get a "D" if you vote.

BLeever, what say you ?

36. FogerRox is one hardworking, hardcharging, maker of a difference.
I don't think that running for elected office is for everyone. It's not for me.

But being a vocal citizen, engaging other citizens, spreading both information and passion: that's what taking responsibility for a government of We the People is all about.

I'm not saying we need to supplant Pelosi, or Reid. Feinstein, maybe. Lieberman: don't get me started.

But I am saying that we need to be more resolved in failure than we are in success, and that we need to understand failures in terms that give us more power, and not less.

(I also meant that I hope that Skinner, Elad, and EarlG have a good weekend.) :)

I was wondering why people would look to you for some sort of "guidance". Nothing against you personally but all I ever expected of you was to provide an excellent meeting place for a lot of very divergent personalities, egos, intellects and opinions. For that I thank you as you've done an excellent job.

Hi Skinner,

I'm new here and you're largely the reason that I'm here at
all.
You helped me get signed up on DU and gave me a warm welcome
and so
have lots of other people.
I found out today that my sister-in-law has the "Big
C" and family health
has certainly been weighing very heavily on my mind and heart
this evening.
God Bless America and every other country in the world,
disturbed ones included!

If no one else has welcomed you here yet, besides Skinner, let me be the first. And I hope that things go well for your family too. Health issues do weigh on all of us, as a community, and that is one reason why I am a Dem. I think the only people who will bring us universal care are the people of our party.

Oh, and this is a good place to hang out. Just ignore what you need to ignore.

I am sorry to hear about your sister-in-law. May she be well and may you and your family share your strength and love with each other during the challenges ahead. I just heard from a friend who is experiencing complications from recent brain surgery and facing another operation next week. She ended her message by saying, "Don't forget to celebrate what's right in the world." I will do that, and one of the "rightest" things I celebrate is DU and all I learn from the thousands upon thousands who share this piece of cyberspace.

Blessings.

I regard the periodic melt-downs on DU like an acute illness. We all get them from time to time, and they're more likely to strike when we're stressed by forces beyond our control, or haven't be taking proper care of ourselves. If you're generally healthy, they're self-correcting.

I think DU is in fine fettle, and a lot of it is due to the efforts of you and the other admins.

Now, go and take care of that other sick baby!

68. But what about the 1s and 0s? Doesn't anyone care about the 1s and 0s?!
Kidding, of course. Hope Baby Skinner gets well immediately and you have a nice visit with your parents.

76. Baby Skinner is just fine.
Baby's JOB ONE function is to wear the parental units out, recovering in two days and stressing them out for a miniumum of two WEEKS. And, of course, in this very moment Papa is being "called out" en masse.

If you read this, Fearless Leader, take THIS home. :grouphug::loveya:

78. Wait, wait!!!
Before you disappear in a puff of smoke, at least sprinkle some pixie dust around, wave the magic wand, do something for good gawd's sake!!!!! ;-)

Nah, just take care of the baby, visit with the folks and try to make sense of what's happening like the rest of us. Peace, man.

82. Im happy....
.....with your attitude, Skinner. Really - if we start looking to you (or any one person) to "guide" us, we're in bad shape. With SO many people here, it's not wrong to expect that some would have less faith in this sub-democracy than others. I've been in attendance of this forum long enough to know it's got strengths it's not even BEGUN to find the limits of.
I've got DU bumper stickers on both ends of the back bumper of my 1957 Studee Baker truck (purposely misspelled to throw off the damned search engines!)to tell everyone in this very red redneck neck of the woods I'm stuck in, just where I'm coming from! That's the same sorta spirit that this forum exudes and I'm DAMNED PROUD to be a part thereof!

DO take care of your kid and family, Skinner. I just found out my 37-year old daughter contracted West Nile Virus 2 weeks ago. She's thankfully rebounding from it, or so it seems. Thank goodness her hubby has good health insurance. Let's hope we all have good health care before the end of this decade. I think we can almost bet we will - because the health of this forum and other's of it's ilk will prevail over the stupidity and selfishness of the dark side!
