Neat bag I purchased from Publix today

I love it!!!

Only cost $1.49, roomy, easy to carry, and I don't have to be bothered with those awful plastic bags.

2. I ordered about 15 similar ones from
www.1bagatatime.com months ago. I just keep them in my trunk and bring what I need into the grocery store with me. They're washable and have a piece of plastic that sits in the bottom to keep it flat.

11. It took months for me to discipline myself to do that.
I ended up with a lot of those bags before I managed to get it down.

And I have to walk down the hill to market and walk back up.

And I do that at least twice a day.

Long (or mid)- term planning is not my forte.

Edited on Fri Sep-21-07 08:04 PM by tbyg52
I'm hoping to solve it with bags that send a message:
http://www.oldamericancentury.org/totes.htm
(Hoping I'll be ashamed to leave them in the car... ;) )

No, they're not cheap, but this org needs help--also posted here:

and had to go out to my car to get them, but now I always remember when I go grocery shopping. It's the smaller errands I still have to train myself for.

And they offer a cooler bag and a wine bottle bag as well. I'm ordering two of this combo:

12. We have similar ones from local stores
that are about a buck. Plus, most grocery stores give you 5 or 6 cents for each bag you reuse, or for each of your own bags you bring in. I figure mine have paid for themselves already.

What I really like about the ones I bought is that they are a bit bigger than the standard paper bag. Plus, they have a nice plastic piece in the bottom that helps the bag stand up.

I can carry 4-6 bags into the house at a time since I can put one on each shoulder and carry more in my hands.

23. Plus, I was at Publix today and noticed
that the very nice young bagger put only about two things in each plastic bag. What's that all about? My groceries would have easily fit in two regular paper bags but I think ended up with a dozen plastic bags!

I know, I know, I should have said something but I was brain dead at the moment and didn't really notice until I got home and started bringing them in. The handy dandy green bag would be ideal for me, though. I've seen them in the store but didn't realize they were only 1.49.

25. They seem to pack bags
assuming that you drive a car. Now I'll admit I live in NYC and DON'T drive or own a car. I don't think people who do are "EVIL". I just don't need one in the city. They seem to love packing only a few items in a bag and I end up repacking the bags when I leave the store for my walk back home. I bought four of these reusable bags at Stop and Shop and they're great even if they are made in CHINA. I think the're made from recycled plastic. They're very roomy and have great handles.

30. The baggers have been told not to overload the plastic bags
because MANY customers complain that the bag breaks and if they're lucky they have to just pick up a lot of stuff, if they're unlucky they have a broken mess to clean up and also lost the food they just bought.

There are other customers who are REALLY picky about what gets packed together. Some things like soap, or certain fresh fruits & vegies have a specific odor, and the customer gets upset because they think it will transfer between foods.

As for the person who mentioned the card in it's own bag, that's because cards get easily wrinkled and stand a better chance at survival if packed alone.

I'm sure if you just explain your preferences to the bagger, most will do as you want.

26. Have you noticed that no matter how many bags you bring into
the store the bagboy seems to be able to get ALL your groceries in them. They used to drive me crazy with the amount of plastic bags they used - like bananas in one bag, a stupid card in a bag of it's own. But I must admit I have a problems remembering to take them into the store. Now, if I forget, I park my cart in a spot nobody will notice, go out to the car and bring them in. Did I mention I hate getting old.

They are similiar to the "Go Again" bags I ordered this summer. Everytime I use them store customers and cashiers alike ask me where I got them. But my biggest challenge is remembering to bring them into the store!

35. I have several of them (they were .99), use them for grocery bags in lieu of paper/plastic
...that, or totebags. Some stores give some $ off (a few cents per bag) for bringing your own bags. They ought to ALL be doing this.
