When Is The Senate Going To Censure Rush Limbaugh
Edited on Fri Sep-21-07 08:19 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
For making his racist "Magic Negro" remarks about Barack Obama and mixing up his name with Osama bin Laden?

Isn't that fostering race hatred and isn't Rush an auxiliary of the Republican party?

I don't think the Senate should be in the "censure" business but if that's their bent , Limbaugh is a good place to start...

on edit-changed censor to censure

1. I assume you mean censure.
And the answer to that is never. And I hope they don't, just like it was wrong for them to censure moveon.org. The senate does not need to be in the business of passing resolutions telling us what appropriate political speech is.

2. Any more Rush quotes?
I remember the Chelsea Clinton/White House Dog crack, but are there any other recent quotes that might show the double-standard being applied to MoveOn?

I used to be able to listen to that asshole for a few minutes, but 30 seconds is about my limit these days.

6. Rush has every right
to spout his fucking nonsense just like Moveon has the right to run their ads. Hopefully the marketplace of ideas will win out, though I have been disappointed before.

7. Isn't Rush the one who started that stupid "name game" in the first place?
I thought it was juvenile then and I still think it is no matter who does it.

though the bard was a little more eloquent and a little wittier.

And by "a little" I mean "a fucking lot."

It was a pointless tax wasting resolution of condemnation. It is imposible for government to censure civillians.

16. You Can't Censure Fantasy
Rushbo doesn't come up with the stuff...he's not that smart...he gets the talking points and then takes the bizzare into the sublime.

I'd rather ignore Rushbo than give him the publicity. And he's just one of many who get the talking points and play the notes of the Mighty Wurlitzer. It's not one person, it's a syndicate that owes its existance and fortunes to the Repugnican party and their dark network of financiers and launderers.

I wish it were as simple as going after one loose cannon, but we have a 20 year, well-financed propaganda machine that has infiltrated the "public discourse" through "deregulation", special access and domination of the print and public airwaves. It's exposing this network and how it works that will disable it...dry up its connections and money. Drain the swamp by exposing the vermin and all they influence. The blogs have begun this process, but there's still a lot more of this onion to peel away.

The MoveOn dog & pony show is backfiring...people are seeing through it as a strawman game...diverting attention from the real issue...the ongoing death and destruction in Iraq. Donations to MoveOn are up, the membership is energized and the Democratic base is pissed...and, while some have angst now, that will soon be replaced by the real world and the mess Repugnicans have made of it. They've now bought this war and let's see them sell it.

What's really ugly are the dems going along with this and getting sucked into GreedyObfuscatin'Pervertshere.

24. How about the original source of those statements?
"Magic Negro": Daniel Ehrenstein, Los Angeles Times- "Like a comic-book superhero, Obama is there to help, out of the sheer goodness of a heart we need not know or understand. For as with all Magic Negroes, the less real he seems, the more desirable he becomes." ("Obama the Magic Negro", Los Angeles Times, 03/19/07)

"Osama Obama": Sen Edward Kennedy- "Why don't we just ask Osama bin -- Osama Obama -- Obama what -- since he won by such a big amount. Seriously, Senator Obama is really unique and special." (Speech before the National Press Club, as reported in the Washington Post, 01/12/05)

So, are you ready to censor, or censure, the actual author and speaker? Sen. Kennedy can certainly be censured by the Senate.

"The term magic negro" was coined by the Los Angeles Times newspaper, not by Rush Limbaugh. The Osama Obama thing was from Ted Kennedy having one of his moments.Limbaugh is a thorn in my side as well but give credit where credit is due.

Why don't we just ask Osama bin -- Osama Obama -- Obama what -- since he won by such a big amount. Seriously, Senator Obama is really unique and special."

Or "Senator Welfare" (Paul Wellstone) Oh yeah, speaking of impertinent remarks, what about VICE-PRESIDENT CHENEY'S "Go f*** yourself!" (addressed to Senator Patrick Leahy). These getting censured anytime soon?
