The Senate Democrats are having a lousy week.

First Sen. John Kerry took a lot of flack for failing to stop campus police from tasering an admittedly belligerent student at a speech Kerry was giving at the University of Florida.

On Wednesday, Republicans blocked legislation by Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., that would have guaranteed troops equal time at home as they spent in active combat in Iraq. On Thursday, the Senate voted 28-70 to block legislation sponsored by Senate Majority leader Harry Reid D-Nev., and Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., that would have cut off funding for combat in June 2008.

Also Thursday, several Senate Democrats joined Republicans to pass a resolution condemning the ad by MoveOn.org that criticized General Petraeus and the Bush Crime Family's illegal occupation or Iraq.

Finally, Reid trotted out another troop withdrawal plan, this one proposed by Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich. Levin's bill mandated that combat troops come home in nine months. It died, too.

“A majority of the House and a majority of the Senate want to change the direction of the war in Iraq,” Senator Reid told reporters. “We have voted accordingly on more than one occasion, in fact on many occasions. But the House having done their job, they come to the Senate and the Senate Republicans, the vast majority of them will not allow us to change the direction of the war in Iraq.”

This is all true, Harry, and the Democrats were elected to stop this madness. So tell me again why impeachment is off the table?

The sept15.org website specifically said there would be no rally - just assemble in Lafayette Park at noon and march immediately to the Capitol.

Speakers ranted on for two bloody hours about left-handed dogcatchers in the Ukraine, etc. We couldn't start because the die-in volunteers were to lead the march, and they wouldn't let them move until we'd heard everybody who muscled up to the mike. By the time the march concluded, I'd been on my middle-aged feet for 7 hours.

And they wonder why participation keeps declining.

As Will Rogers said 70 years ago, "I don't belong to any organized political party. I'm a Democrat."

Great example of how to organize. I was there for 1 & 2, but missed 3 for the free-for-all in DC last week. (Not that it wasn't worth it, but it could have been so much more forceful without all the BS).

The organizer for Beach Impeach is a San Francisco cab driver, Brad Newsham, who simply gives a damn.

We're gonna lie down at the Berkeley Marina (permit pending) and spell out "IMPEACH".
