What do you think is inside Fort Knox?
My sweetie and i drove across Kentucky today to visit family. We passed close to Fort Knox, and started wondering... is it really filled with gold? Or has it all been liquidated by this point, and it's just kept up as a facade? Just what does a country with $9 trillion in debt have in its national treasury?

As a kid i always sort of pictured it like Scrooge McDuck's pad... ;-)

5. As SallyMander pointed out
chances are the building is uncontaminated with money. Plenty of room for Darth's heart specialists, shotguns and special "Last Throes" souvenir memorabilia.

10. I'm shocked
I really figured it contained a bunch of IOU notes and not much else. If only Darthco could use it as an oil depot, if the hapless morans could just figure out how to keep the Iraqi pipelines free of sabotage.

explained that the US government broke treaties with the Lakota, killed hundreds of innocent people, invaded the Black Hills, dug up all the gold they could find, carried it off to Fort Knox .... and buried it there.

6. All the gold has been shipped to Paraguay
awaiting the arrival of the chimp in January 2009.

Remember how Scrooge McDuck used to dive into the money inside his giant vault? Had a diving board and everything. I used to LMAO at those comics.

I thought I read something that said that no one is even allowed to do an inventory of it, so I'm guessing it's not there. Maybe they have housing bricks spray painted or something.

32. I don't know how true it is...
But according to Aaron Russo's "Freedom to Fascism" even the Federal Government has no idea if there is any gold left in Fort Knox. If I remember correctly (and I could be mistaken) his film showed that the Federal Reserve was given control of Knox and has refused to allow the Government to see what is inside of it ever since.

Since the $ is not pegged to the gold standard anymore, there's no reason to keep gold around. And it would explain why institutional cafeterias never run out of m&c. :P
