Le premier pleure du beffroi lunaire
For the French impaired like me, it's The first Cry of the Lunar Belfry. (I'm trusting babelfish on that.)

This is the first in what I hope will become a series of random cries from the inhabitants of the lunar belfry. The Moonbats, if you will allow, I hear them squeaking sporadically, kind of like Harry Potter and his parseltounge gig. Usually they just point out stupid shit, but once in a while they do have a point, so, I hope to pass along their more lucid moments.

So here's the idea, Dan Rather is on to something with his lawsuit. I swear I heard a group talking about this.

The jist of the whole thing is that we might proceed as a class when Mr. Rathers assertions are demonstrated, we the people, with reasonable expectations that the news is presented without bias by those advertising themselves as news organizations. Thus, we are a wronged class. We bought from their advertisers, we were lured into thinking we were informed, that they were presenting an objective view of the world. That's what they told us. Bastards.

So we have Rather's suit to add to the instances where actual tax dollars went to produce favorable news reports (none dare call it propaganda) as I recall. There's something else to be thrown into the old synaptic matrix to add a little spice. It comes in the form of a recent post by arendt with a lovely morsel from recent history. Please go look at the context, I don't want to quote the entire OP. I'll wait here on this tab while you have a look.

Back? Good. Didn't go? Well then, that this really hit home for me might confuse you.

Just check the points:

1) Message doesn’t get out - has the Democratic Party had any message discipline, or are some Democrats constantly sabotaging every attempt to tell the truth about Bush’s lies on the grounds that “we” can’t look “angry”?

2) Lot of time wasted - like six bloody years of the Neocons robbing us blind.

3) Activisits discouraged - yeah, like me.

4) Nothing good accomplished - no SC justices blocked (by Dems that is - just Harriet Myers, and she was probably part of some Rovian scheme.); no tax cuts for the rich blocked; no meaningful investigations of the Plame Leak, the WMD lies, Gitmo, Abu Ghraib, etc;.

Finally, as progressives start to rebel against DLC mis-leadership, what do they tell us?
“You’re dividing the party.”

So they were talking about the whole Dan thing when I was reading that, and then putting 3 and 5 together plus the super secret fudge factor of 9, I got 7: "The Courts are our last defense."

Stop and think about this a moment.

The corporations have taken over enough of Congress. For a progressive takeover we need to overcome the DLC in addition to the GOP. There's clearly no other explanation for their behavior flying in the face of popular opinion.

The executive branch is clearly a criminal fascist order, who has subverted Justice to Just Us.

Our last defense before revolution is the Judiciary.

We have been harmed! We have been harmed by a criminal enterprise. The GOP meets the definition of "Corrupt Organization" under RICO law. They met it in 2004 when I researched it. The citizens are a pretty big freaking class, that's us, you know, you and I, and bill over there in the corner, just fucking everyone has been gravely harmed by this organization. Monetarily and psychologically.

We cannot compel an investigation of this, can we? A grand Jury? A citizens convention?

It's clearly time to get creative to resolve this shit.

1. we're rushing headlong into fascism, because of two things: one of which you mentioned:
First: corporate control of congress, to an extent never seen (thanks for that, dems, you didn't mostly all used to be that way....we know the pugs have always been part of the corporate fiefdom)

Second, and equally, if not more importantly: Corporate Control of all major media, especially TV, which is reality for most 'news' consumers

how does one stop this slide, seemingly acclerating at a rate approaching Hubble's Red Shift?

on that cheery note, I think I'll listen to the discussion of the Cubs/Brewers race

2. Um, isn't Dan Rather's lawsuit about the corporate control of the media?

5. sort of...but you won't be hearing much more about it in the......
corporate media!

kind of like you never heard a word about the 1996 Telecommunications Act in the corporate media...the one that gave everything away to the......corporate media

3. Did you see the sub-thread with the DLC scores?
We are being played by the corporate elite. it's more and more clear every day, and I think you're right about the Rather thing.

We'll at least see if we can depend on the courts. I don't see how Rather could lose a jury trial.

Enthusiastic K&R! It's nice to hear (and feel) something other than "Fuck It"

7. Americans will have an opportunity to speak in the primaries.
I just hope we all speak for real change in this corrupted system. The people need to get a voice in the oval office or we will continue to have no voice at all and the corporations will be the only ones benefiting.

10. All the first tier candidates are corporate.
The choice is being made for us yet again.

We should make them wear sponsor decals like nascar drivers. If your average contribution was small enough it would look like herringbone cloth, otherwise it'll look like a boy scout at the jamboree.

12. Government run by the people or by the corporations. We will see.
I really, really hope people want their voice to be heard and we don't get more of the same.

16. this is GREAT
this needs to be a poster. The floor of the senate with all the "nascar" decals and big signs over the back of the speaker's podium saying "Halliburton" and "Boeing," etc.

it would be even more effective to actually find out which corps made the biggest contributions to what politician... and a GREAT visual to illustrate that if one person had tons of patches or some had humongo patches b/c of $$ donated vs. others.

but how about...

le premiere cri des dingues?

or --the first cry of the nutcases--which is what "moonbats" is getting at as an insult...some things esp. insults don't usually translate literally.)

I think you've got "the first weeping of the moon belfry. Cri is scream or cry of anguish, iirc.
