More evidence of Florida Republicans putting profit before human needs
UCF Stadium just opened up last week and the kind of devious minded, business mentality that governs this state came up with a brilliant way to make money. Don't provide public fountains at the stadium, just sell bottled water. And they would have gotten away with it too, except that the vendors ran out of bottled water to sell and people started passing out from heat exhaustion because there was no water in the stadium to hydrate them.

You would think this was an oversight. But, no, not in Florida where money always trumps the human needs of the masses. The insensitive prat who made the decision, didn't even try to hide the kind of dumbfounded thinking that is prevalent in Florida. See if you can pick it up and welcome to my nightmare:

The University of Central Florida did not meet state building codes by selling water at its new football stadium instead of providing fountains or water coolers, according to a group that developed the codes.

When the stadium was designed, the building codes called for either drinking fountains or "bottled water coolers." But the sole source of water for fans attending last Saturday's inaugural game was from vendors.

School officials stood by their reading of the code.

"I am confident that my interpretation of the code is correct," John Jackson, building-code administrator with UCF, wrote in an e-mail response to questions. "Nonetheless, I believe that the issue is behind us now that UCF is installing 50 water fountains in the stadium."

School officials defended the lack of water fountains after the Texas game, saying state codes did not require them.

You've got to read this article to fully understand what we're dealing with with this new breed of money first mentality. It's like Cheney ignoring everything, but what supports the position that will produce the best results for himself, at the expense of all others.

2. I know the politics behind UCF.

But, yes, there are probably a few DINOs in the bunch. One of the first things that Jebbie did involved the Regents. He first did away with them completely, so eliminated everyone that was on the board before, and then he appointed all new people. Do you think he would have included DINOs in the group? Maybe so.

3. Drinking water from public fountains in Florida ...
is not good for your health.

As is drinking water from any non-bottled source in Florida, for that matter.

4. Probably true today.

But it beats water from fountains in Washington D.C.

But they still had a responsibility to provide water at that event to the public for free.

5. Can't have bottled water without plastic. Lots and lots of plastic.
Not exactly green.

7. Paper and wax, I guess. Lighter than glass. More trees to hack down, too. nt
