WWII has become just a battle we won in a war we lost to global fascism -
- a mere footnote in History describing a momentary victory by the losers.

Meanwhile, back on the couch, Americans sit blithely by as fascism finalizes its death-grip on our government, economy, legal system, military, and democracy. 35 years of advancements in the science of PROPAGANDA and continual improvement applied to its delivery have brought such success that Goebbels himself would be envious.

Are you in any way surprised that Prescott Bush, GW's grandfather and HW Bush's father, was a prominent American fascist who made his fortune colluding with the 3rd Reich? Do you think its irrelevant? Coincidental? Or maybe you never heard of Prescott.

Have you noticed?

The takeover of the RNC began with Goldwater's defeat, targeting local school boards then moving up the ladder... Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush... Soon, President "Goldwater Girl", "Neo-Liberal" Hillary will be ensconced thanks to Die-bold, ES&S, Sequoia, and Hart Intercivic.

Via-Con, Faux News Corp, GE, and Disney prefer to "curry favor", be "players at the table", reap the profits, and share the benefits of power. They're big boys in long pants, the brown shirts and the black shirts long ago discarded on the heap that is irrelevant, forgotten, ignored, untaught, ancient history.

Are you self-convinced DU is immune to orchestrated manipulation? Your stats and you words are on file. What you think, how you feel, what you eat and what you buy are all on file. Adding your medical records and DNA, soon enough, how you vote will be on file too even though it won't be counted as cast. No Matter. The prisons have been built, the legislation passed, the Court packed, the generals replaced. Its now only a question of when, no longer a question of if.

How long will you continue to sit on the couch? Maybe it really doesn't matter... Maybe its too late. What will our children say of us?

1. The People must Wake Up before these crazy war profiteering leaders usher in WW III.
The Day The Nazi Died
by Chumbawamba

We're taught that after the war the Nazis vanished without a trace
But battalions of fascists still dream of a master race
The history books they tell of their defeat in forty-five
But they all come out of the woodwork on the day the Nazi died
They say the prisoner of Spandau was a symbol of defeat
Whilst Hess remained imprisoned and the fascists they were beat
So the promise of an aryan world would never materialize
So why did they all come out of the woodwork on the day the Nazi died
The world is riddled with maggots--the maggots are getting fat
They're making a tasty meal of all the bosses and bureaucrats
They're taking over the board rooms and they're fat and full of pride

And they all came out of the woodwork on the day the Nazi died
So if you meet with these historians I'll tell you what to say
Tell them that the Nazis never really went away
They're out there burning houses down and peddling racist lies
And we'll never rest again until every Nazi dies

14. while it is a little over the top
I would have to ask:

Is hillary going to reverse the USA PATRIOT ACT?
Is she going to reverse the Bush wiretap program?
Does she intend to stay in Iraq? Or go to war with Iran?
How many corporations has she taken money from?

Advanced questions:
Will she be at the forefront of a progressive movement or will she just sort of triangulate and blunt it?
Will she inspire America to move back towards being a democratic republic and away from despotism?
Will she actually repair the election system and restore peoples rights to vote and ensure their votes are counted?

A DLC approved-moderate democrat is not going to change things enough and will leave us in worse shape than before.

15. sorry I missed the deleted posts b/c I am wondering just what you
could disagree with.

I applaud the OP as dishearteningly dead-on.
WWII as a battle in a bigger war is a new way for me to see it and I realize it is chillingly apt. It is horribly horribly true.

6. What gets me....
...is how some people in this country are so dead set against the government helping people stay alive and healthy, yet get absolutely giddy at the thought of the government doling out "freedom and justice" to various unarmed third countries and slaughtering tons of people.

Actually, come to think of it, that does appear to capture the platform of the Republican party pretty effectively.

13. I've also wondered about that. How many freeps gave a crap about the Iraqi people
before their idiot pResident decided to liberate them? :eyes: These people don't give a flying rat's ass about our own poor and oppressed and we're too believe that they care about oppressed third world people? What a crock of shit that is. Seriesly!

7. Americans can, but as we are not really free anymore and have no more
say in our own represenatation or our government, this cannot be reflected because our senate is as remote to the people it rules and ignores them as much as the Chinese People's Congress, or whatever they call their sham-organization.

Please do not equate the American People with BushPutinist policies. We don't really have anything to do with them, any more than the Russians have to do with their BushPutinist government, or had to do with the Soviet government.

5. Welcome to DU, Kip.
:toast:

And yes, the way you frame it is unique and, as I sit here and read it again, you may very well be correct.

It is not yet a certainty, because if WWII was only an "inconclusive" battle against Global Totalitarianism (which is the only thing I would change in your OP - Totalitarianism can come in many guises, and fascism is only one of them), then this is only one battle, too.

And we might be losing, we might be losing badly even, right at this moment.

But remember, in 1780 it was just the same for the American Revolution. General Washington was in despair and his letters and comments indicate that he was thinking a lot about loss and the unsuccessful end of the Revolution at this time, though he kept it from his soldiers as best he could, in order not to damage morale.

But look how things had turned out by 1782.

It's not that I am disagreeing with a thing you said, but there is still hope, no matter how faint and flickering.

I've still got my shotgun.

Just in case we need to resort to what we're not supposed to talk about here...
