with the back window open so I guess they could shoot someone trying to whatever. Totally tinted windows to black. On the FDR Drive New York City this am. Who the devil is this? When do dignitaries travel in such sinister caravans? This if the USA.... this is not Bagdad. Supposedly this is not a police state. Who could this have been? Cheney? The Decider is not here yet. Iran pres is not here yet. Or maybe he is. This seems very ominous to me. Why is it necessary for anyone to drive around in this manner.

Any thoughts? Should I call the mayor's office? Should I call the news media? This seems very creepy.

The protection detail described in the OP isn't a new thing. You just don't see it as often cause not ever foreign dignitary warrants such protection. Ahmadinejad does.

Iran's pres according to Washington Post arrives tomorrow.

Ahmadinejad, who is to arrive in New York on Sunday to address the United Nations General Assembly, is scheduled to speak at a Columbia question-and-answer forum on Monday. His request to lay a wreath at the World Trade Center site was denied and condemned by Sept. 11 family members and politicians.

9. Secret Service....

They are doing sweeps @ NYC, because next week is the UN General Assembly (half of NYC blocked off) and everyone from the Iranians to the Shrub will be in town. Next week there will be 50 motorcades running around town with secret service protection, along with all the black SUV's.....it happens every year around this time of year...

Uptown NYC always turns into a bit of a fortress with the world's heads of state in town. Lots of DSS (Diplomatic State Security) and SS (secret service).
