This should never have come up for a vote but since it did..we're making freaking LEMONADE, anyone? ..pink at that..just throw some cherries in! B-)

36. Oh, it more than paid for the "Betray Us" ad...
...that ad cost $65,000 to print in the NYT.

This is so great! Basically what you have here, is an organization that is taking the friggin' megaphone away from the lily-livered wing of our party and shouting over them -- directly on behalf of the angry and alienated base who has something important to say but is being shut out by the cowardly elements in their own party -- so as to reach the population who are being fed establishment pablum every day.

Good on 'em, and good on us!

Maybe I need to start sending them more bum kits?

http://www.offrampbums.com

With 2 million dollars, I could put a lot of full page ads in a lot of local papers in East Tennessee... Chattanooga, Cleveland, Dayton, Athens, Sweetwater, Knoxville, Crossville.

I could do a few different ads, too. Make one about republics hating the troops and advocate for them to keep dying.

Another could be how the republics hate the poor and show how they have struck down the minimum wage increase repeatedly, all while giving themselves raises every year.

Another one could detail the crimes committed by Bushit via domestic wiretapping and how he LIED us into a war of aggression in which we invaded and occupied a sovereign nation who had done nothing to us. It would help to mention the Saudi Connection and their secret flight out of the country after 9-11, when all other flights were suspended in the US.

Oh, I'm on a roll here! Let's get making some ads!

53. Same here.
I didn't hate the ad for its content, I hated that it was so childish and obvious. Petraeus/Betray us? Give me a break. Why not just call him "fartface" or "stinkbreath" if you're going to be that juvenile. I expect lameness like that from the right wing, not our side.

Then came the fake GOP outrage...I couldn't wait to give money to MoveOn. And I'll kick in another donation today.

62. I would have played it differently
The fact is that it wasn't the Petraeus report, even if Petraeus had written it. The report Congress demanded was Bush's report. Bush used - and continues to use - the General for cover. Bush is an unabashed pussy, a wimp, a wafer. He uses people to cover for his fuck-ups. Petraeus is a convenience.

MoveOn's big mistake was putting Petraeus' up as the bad guy. Civilians are the ones making the bad decisions on Iraq, and the General is only a dupe. Bush should have been put up as the betrayer. Petraeus is just another Bush sycophant.

What more do we need to know? If Congress isn't going to do what we sent them there to do in November, then we have to go elsewhere to get our message out.

Gave money for the Petraeus ad because I thought it was a good question and had well-researched facts to back up the content of the ad. Once I get paid this week, they'll get more.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/9/21/115032/846

New York, NY (Rotters)- In a vote of 3,100,000 to 100,000 yesterday, the members of a massive nationwide progressive political action group voted overwhelmingly to place a second ad in the New York Times this weekend condemning the U.S. Congress for wasting time condemning them over a previous ad condemning General David Petraeus as "General Betray us". The ad implies that both houses of Congress, in particular the leadership, are "Ass-kissing little chickenshits", a term which has been used to refer to General Petraeus by his superiors in the past.

49. 500k a minute
CHICAGO, Sept. 21 -- The money spent on one day of the Iraq
war could buy homes for almost 6,500 families or health care
for 423,529 children, or could outfit 1.27 million homes with
renewable electricity, according to the American Friends
Service Committee, which displayed those statistics on large
banners in cities nationwide Thursday and Friday.

The war is costing $720 million a day or $500,000 a minute,
according to the group's analysis of the work of Nobel
Prize-winning economist Joseph E. Stiglitz and Harvard public
finance lecturer Linda J. Bilmes.

The estimates made by the group, which opposes the conflict,
include not only the immediate costs of war but also ongoing
factors such as long-term health care for veterans, interest
on debt and replacement of military hardware.

"The wounded are coming home, and many of them have
severe brain and spinal injuries, which will require
round-the-clock care for the rest of their lives," said
Michael McConnell, Great Lakes regional director of the AFSC,
a peace group affiliated with the Quaker church.

The $720 million figure breaks down into $280 million a day
from Iraq war supplementary funding bills passed by Congress,
plus $440 million daily in incurred, but unpaid, long-term
costs.

I pulled this off another website. In the time it takes most
people to read and digest this 1.5 mil. has been spent!
