When someone comes at you with the "Dems just want to raise taxes" line
tell them you don't want to raise taxes.

Tell them you want to end this *&%($#!!? war so that there will be plenty of money to fund universal healthcare, finance programs for vets, help New Orleans get back on its feet, invest in infrastructure, fund education, combat global warming, clean the environment, fight poverty (domestic and foreign), and pay off the national debt.

Then...lower taxes.

Ask why they want to bankrupt America, economically and morally, in order to enrich the military/industrial and oil sectors.

Did I miss anything?

1. Yes, just one, Obama is talking about raising Social Security taxes.
Democratic Presidential Candidate Suggests Taxing Those Who Make More Than $97,000 Per Year
http://www.abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=3638710&page=1

"If we kept the payroll tax rate exactly the same but applied it to all earnings and not just the first $97,000," Obama wrote this week in an Iowa newspaper, "we could eliminate the entire Social Security shortfall."

3. That's not a "raise" in taxes.
It's removing the tax exemption for the rich by removing the cap at $97,000.

Don't play reTHUG word games with us.

6. The GOP doesn't want the rich to pay their full fair share in to SS
But sure as shit they're gonna expect to get their full benefit out.

10. The Social Security payout formula
is already incredibly progressive. It's based on bendpoints where you get almost all of your first $ 6,000 in benefits back, but the next 15,000 you only get a smaller share of, and the next 40,000 you only get a tiny slice back, and the rest up to 96,000 you basically get no extra benefit for.

That's fine with me, but while the rich don't pay their 6.4 % on their full salaries, they absolutely don't get a proportionate benefit to what they put in either.

11. Us? I was just pointing out that the poster was saying
what to say when pugs say that we just want to raise taxes, come back with we should lower them.

Would Obamas' proposal raise revenue for SS? yes, How? by raising taxes on earners over 97k.

pretty straightforward

2. You want stuff?
You have to pay for it. 10 billion a month for this stupid war.

But any extra taxes I may have to pay would be worth it to get these clowns out of Washington. If my taxes go up? I. DON'T. CARE.

I'll pay double to see these clowns gone.

12. I don't want to pay more taxes
I work hard for my money, like most. But I wouldn't give it a second thought if it wasn't going straight to some fatcat's pocket -- if it was going to someone or something that could really use it. If it was something my kids would benefit from, not creating a mess they'll have to clean up.

If we don't win big in 2008 I fear the worst -- a Republican administration AND higher taxes to feed the growing war monster.

4. You want lower taxes?
Stop voting for Republicans who give all of YOUR tax dollars to their cronies and get literally NOTHING in return.

Stop voting for Republicans who give a free ride to the robber barons at the expense of the middle class.

Stop voting for Republicans who drive the public debt through the roof.

Stop voting for Republicans who repeatedly say "government doesn't work" then proceed throw a monkey wrench in to ensure it doesn't work.

5. And tell them you want to stop the Repukes from selling us to China with debt.
Then ask 'em, "What makes more sense? To raise from our own people the money we need, debt free, or borrow it from the Chinese, and tax our grandchildren to pay for it?"

7. Use that old Maher line
Repub: "Democrats will raise taxes"

Dem: "We have to because someone spent all the money in the world cutting Paris Hilton's taxes and not killing Osama bin Laden".

13. Tax the rich. Feed the poor.
Why people who will never be rich can't grasp that concept drives me fucking nuts.
