Peru meteor illness deepens
About 200 villagers have fallen ill from mysterious gases that spewed from a crater after a meteorite crashed in southeastern Peru, but no radiation has been detected, officials and scientists say.

Scores of residents of the farming village of Carancas began vomiting and complaining of headaches and dizziness after the space object struck the area Saturday, creating an eight metre deep, 20 metre-wide crater.

1. So it wasn't a spy satellite.
Amazing. Pravda said it was one of our spy satellites that was shot down. Unfortunately that isn't the case.

Weird story.

2. CO2 Posioning
I saw a program earlier today describing lakes in the Andes...Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador...crater lakes where carbon dioxide and other gases from the volcanoes beneath them. The gas is trapped in lakes or under ice and if they're disturbed...such as with a landslide or meteor impact, the gas is released and rolls down the mountainsides similar to a pyrocrastic (lava) flow. The gas is very consentrated and hangs low to the ground (heavier than air) and will smother or suffocate people. Sure sounds like this is what happened to me.

4. Oh, good thought.
I've heard of the same thing, massive bubbles of gas being released by some kind of impact, and people suffocating as a result. Interesting.

8. Prove it!
One must exhaust all other possibilities - to be scientific about it.
Unless of course, hysteria is being used as and obfuscation device as it often is and then science is not needed at all.

6. I also heard it was a spy satellite
that was exploded on purpose. And it seemed to have had a radioactive isotope in it.
