Rightwing Choir: "Why should God bless America?"

The "Grand Avenue Church of God Choir," sang this to some of the GOP candidates for president in Florida on September 17, 2007 at the Values Voter Debate in Florida:

Why should God bless America?
She’s forgotten he exists
And has turned her back
On everything that made her what she is

Why should God stand beside her
Through the night with the light from his hand?
God have mercy on America
Forgive her sin and heal our land

The courts ruled prayer out of our schools
In June of ‘62
Told the children “you are your own God now
So you can make the rules”

If a left-wing choir sang a similar song to Democratic candidates but criticizing America from a leftwing perspective, it would get a lot more media-coverage. (Rachel Maddow of Air America made that point.)

1. Because we keep doing evil shit in his name.

God hates religious hypocrites.

2. Individuals can pray in public schools all day if they want

and no one will stop them if they don't disrupt class.

3. Why would any deity, worthy of the name, take any interest in American politics?

The whole concept is beyond silly.

If there is a God, why would it bother with what amounts to the doings of some of inhabitants of speck of dust surrounded by trillions of other specks of dust.

We think ourselves important in the cosmos only because our overdeveloped egos tell us we are.
