4. Almost, could be said, more truth in that one Sunday comic strip than
all the coverage of the pResident in the "mainstream" press over the past 8 years.

5. You're right
The fancy brush at the top is all gone. One day he's going to just put this in place of a new strip:

16. It's been traditional for years for cartoonists to provide
two opening panels that can be cut by editors for space/format reasons (horizontal or vertical printing). (Whether this is a good idea or not is debated). If the Trib usually does this for Doonesbury, then it is not really a case of censorship, but simply their paper's standard layout choice. If they DON'T usually do it, but did it for just this week, then they probably deliberately censored it.

18. I knew there seemed to be alternate layouts available (some of >
> my favorites seem to even be available in strip or single panel). I didn't realize individual papers could just delete panels. I'm also a little surprised that artists at Trudeau's level would allow it.

20. Of course he would.
Trudeau's a veteran cartoonist. He knows this is what's done in the business, he's been going along with it from the beginning, and he's not going to make a fuss about it now.

21. The first two panels of a Sunday strip are always a "throw away" gag
Trudeau's always gone along with it. Bill Watterson (Calvin & Hobbes), on the other hand, refused. That was one of the many points of disagreement he had with the syndicate. I don't remember the details (he describes it in one of the anthologies), but they had some compromise where papers could choose to run the whole thing full size or a shrunken version of the whole thing.

19. Ironically, considering how the Dems have been cowering over the last week,
Bush and Co. seem to be doing just fine without him.
