Are Tucker Carlson’s Days Numbered?
Filed under: General — Mark @ 2:41 am

As I reported last month, Tucker Carlson’s ratings are a sinkhole that is sucking down the whole of MSNBC’s schedule. I wondered when MSNBC’s programmers might come out of their nepotism-induced coma and drop the ax on Tucker. There are days when his numbers are barely half of either his lead-in, his lead-out, or both.

It would stand to reason that the network honchos would want to jettison the biggest loser on their team so that they might actually make some money during that time period. Certainly the programs adjacent to Tucker would be love to see him go as he is hurting their performance as well. Last June, in an apparent effort to staunch the bleeding, one of the two daily hours allotted to Tucker was replaced by a straight newscast. But half of Tucker is still a whole flop.

So what will MSNBC do now? I don’t know. But I do know that rumors a year ago that Tucker had been fired elicited this impassioned protest from cable’s fortunate son:

“It’s bullshit. It’s total bullshit. I talked to Abrams last night. I’ve got another year on my contract. That’s my comment: Bullshit.”

If I’m not mistaken, I would conclude that he viewed the rumors of his demise as some sort of “bullshit,” but I could be wrong. However, I’m fairly sure that I’m correct in calculating that a year has transpired since his blustery declaration that he had another year on his contract. The expiration would come next month, to be precise.

I haven’t heard any of the customary splashy announcements celebrating a new term as was done when Keith Olbermann re-upped for four more years last February. And on a purely subjective note, it seems to me that Tucker has been phoning it in since his airtime was slashed in June. So I wouldn’t be surprised if he was quietly ushered out the back door before long. What would be surprising would be if he was kept on.

1. I hope so...
Besides the obvious, his delivery and snobby sarcasm has descended to a new level of stupidity. He's just automatically gainsaying anything which anyone left of Orrin Hatch says. Creepy.

Rather than use inflammatory language which will get some people's underwear in a twist, let me just say that he's so...Weird.

And what I find most amusing is that he was born in San Francisco :)

and apparently his stepmother gave birth to him..

NO bio ever mentions his "real" mother..only his frozen-food-heiress stepmomma.. :) (she's a swanson heir)

Tucker, a college dropout, mimics much of the right-wingnut world
Edited on Sun Sep-23-07 07:35 AM by Submariner
I've noticed that Limbaugh and Hannity both flunked out of their freshman year in college, and Beck, who barely got out of high school, is a druggie like Limbaugh. I'm sure their are others, but it is surprising that the repubtards put so much stock in this ignorant lot of idiots.

7. I noticed Shuster had taken his spot a couple of times. Maybe that
placement is in the future. I would hate to see Shuster taken off the newsbeat however, he does such a wonderful job on that. I like Mika, get her away from Sloe Joe and give her a shot. A pretty, smart and "on her toes" female between Tweety and KO might work, who knows???

8. Shuster disappoints me occasionally, like last week when
interviewing Eli Pariser. He has done some great reporting though. For me, I wish they'd give Rachel Maddow a shot at her own show. That woman can think on her feet and I suspect would be way more fair and balanced than fucker ever thought about being.

9. We're Paying Him...Might As Well Play Him...
Remember, Abrams did axe one high ticket MSNBC loser...Rita Cosby. The last thing corporate America like to do is admit a mistake and nothing says mistake more than having to eat someone's contract (especially if its a high profile hire). The networks spend millions on the contracts and then the staff and promotion. If a show is cancelled, the cost has to be justified...call it screwy, but that's how the game is played. A baseball analogy is the free agent who your team hires...but he doesn't perform as expected...and you've spent all the money. Most teams will play the free agent no matter how poor the guy performs just to make it appear that the money wasn't wasted.

Tucker has been safely removed from prime time and I suspect his demise is not too far off if his contract expires.

IRC, MSNBC announced several months ago a revised line-up that moved Tweety and Olbermann an hour earlier (bye bye Tucker) and loading up with more retread prison and "predator" shows. I haven't seen a follow up about this.

You can be an incompetent idiot and still be placed at the helm of a national newspaper (Bill Kristol), or put in charge of the FCC (Michael Powell), or handed a string of television shows and tank them all (Tucker Carlson), or get your own propaganda hour on cable (Chris Wallace)... hell, daddy's friends will even steal the White House for you.

It seems like the last 10 years or so have been dominated by the idiot sons of the rich-- am I imagining this?

20. I have Dish Network. Have always suspected they know what
I what from I have on at anytime. Just my theory. I know they record who TiVos what but not sure about just regular viewing. That said, the minute the Fucker Carlson comes on I make sure that no TV in the house is tuned to that show. (And I have Faux blocked just so they know I won't put up with BS.)

I don't want to give Fucker even the slightest bump in the slightest chance that anyone cares what channel my TV is set on. Every night at 6 pm my TVs are set to any channel but MSNBC - usually C-Span - or go silent. I also TiVo Keith every night even though I watch it live for the same dang reason...

From your keyboard to God's ears - please let Fucker be gone. He is a dishonest, biased, whiny little "moran" who is hurting our country (thanks Jon Stewart!). And he gave up any pretense of "journalistic integrity" (okay, he never had any but if there were a sliver of a chance he flushed it for Scooter) when he ranted night after night about the railroading of poor Scooter Libby when Fucker's Daddy headed the collection of funds for poor Scooter's legal defense fund.

Fucker I hear there is a chair with you name on it at one of the reichwing stink tanks just waiting for you. Go for it man.

If they want high ratings in that time slot.....PHIL DONAHUE would bring them! What better way would there be to undo the damage they have done to that network by deciding to be FAUX NEWS lite and firing their HIGHEST RATED HOST?

We should have a DU write-in to MSNBC to BRING BACK PHIL!

Not the news about Iraq, not pundits discussing Iraq, but the actual news FROM Iraq. Reports about individual incidents of market places being bombed, semi-trailers being found with a dozen executed men in them, the parliament breaking down into sectarian and regional factions, mercenaries shooting up public places, etc.

All the stuff we don't see, but should.
