anti abortion freaks want to put up an infant death memorial - Ark.

Saturday Special: Only in Arkansas

I frequently bemoan the fact that I am not creative enough to make up stuff as good as what happens in reality–many thanks to an alert feminist fan in Arkansas for this story which starts out ridiculous and just gets worse. Seems a group of anti-abortion wingnuts wants to put a statue on the Arkansas state capitol grounds commemrorating infant deaths,

“Supporters of the memorial said it would allow parents to cope with grief caused by miscarriage, abortion or fetal or infant death.”

The statue is described “as a man holding a baby while talking to a woman. The robe wearing male figure wears sandals.”

When the Attorney General asked, “Is that Jesus ?”

The reply was, “It’s whoever you want to say it is.”

-snip-

“The commission met in the Old Supreme Court Room on the Capitol’s second floor. On a table at the rear of the room the group set up a display showing a small model of the proposed statue. At the end of a table was a rectangular, dark wood box. Commission members that the box contained a fetus miscarried in 1993.

“Since he was considered medical waste, his mother asked if he could be preserved,” (organizer Millie) Lace told the commission. “He is here with us today at our reference table. If you desire to see him, let us know.””

(THEY ARE INSANE!)

can you imagine living your life inside women's wombs, as the anti abortionists do?

bunch of perverts.

2. 50% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage in the first month.
So says "Discovery Health" - Most women just think they got a late period.

Even if those people in Arkansas had any brains they'd still be loons.

10. A lot of people tend to ignore that fact. If they accepted that they
would have to also accept the fact that not every fertilized egg is precious in God's eyes.

BTW the people in the article represent only a portion of the population of Arkansas. I swear that we aren't all that backwards.

12. That doesn't necessary follow - consider that 100% of lives end in death,
but that doesn't mean that not every life is precious in God's eyes. Likewise, the occurrence of miscarriages does not require anti-abortionists to discount the spiritual significance of a fertilized egg. To them, a miscarriage is just a very early death which no doubt is part of God's divine plan.

In the bigger picture, of course, the people in the OP are loony-tunes, and they should not be taken as representative of Arkansas (or any other state)...

I meant those PARTICULAR people in Arkansas. Not ALL people of Arkansas. -- thought that was obvious but I don't mind clarifying for ya granny! :)

7. My ectopic at 5 weeks
My tube had ruptured. Yes, I saw my ultrasound. You could not see any "baby", only a big bloody mess. As one doctor said, "It took us almost half an hour to find her bladder." Would they put all that medical "waste" under a microscope to find a 5 week old embryo in order to bury it???????

No, thank you.

8. But why stop there? How about a "Death Park" theme? Why exclude other worthy

victims of death who are equally as dead?
There could be a statue (abstract, of course), made of a mangled mass of metal, to honor those lost to car/bus/taxi/scooter/motorcycle accidents, which should include references to road rage or an unexpected deer/dog/cat/moose/mouse jumping out of the bushes.
There should be a statue in the shape of cancer cells - this should be a big hit at the park.
One for murder and torture victims of all persuasions.
One for people who died from typhoons, hurricanes, tornadoes, torrential rain, forest fires, avalanches and tsunamis,
not to mention heat and humidity.
And then there's always that dependable category - people who died of old age. Remember them?

Death Park could be set up in the form of a circle, emphasizing the fact that, at one point or another, everything ends in death.
It could be an uplifting experience, nation! Think about it, before you jump all over their wonderful new idea. I mean, really -
don't just go off, half-cocked.

16. Oh, absolutely. I didn't omit them from the park; it's just that I thought they'd have their own
designated memorial. Don't all wars get memorials? It could be paid for, in its entirety,
by Halliburton.

Oh, wait - they moved to Dubai, right?

Well, how about Blackwater? Yeah, that's the ticket!

9. If you'd seen some of the knuckle-draggers in LA County's high desert, you'd know it ain't all Arkie
We have these ludicrous Jesusian zealots out here, too -- they have the Abortionist House
of Horrors at Halloween time, coolly cramming together anti-choice, violence against women and
their hatred for anyone having fun.

On the other hand, Arkansas has a very healthy liberal base.

11. The fetus is sacred
Once it's born it's worthless, except as cheap labor.

17. You know what - I'll give them that. As soon as there are the following memorials first:
- one dedicated to all those lost due to insufficient or unavailable heathcare
- one dedicated to all those lost in Katrina, both as a direct result of the storm and flooding and those lost after or during due to complications brought about by no assistance whatsoever from the US government
- one dedicated to all those lost from the Iraq invasion: US soldiers, other countries' soldiers and Iraqi citizens
- one dedicated to all those lost on 9/11 due to the lack of interest on the part of our cabal-in-charge (yeah, I know there's one planned, but they need to stop squabbling and start building)
- one dedicated to the women, children and pets (yes, pets - this is a big problem) lost due to domestic violence or unchecked brutality on a personal level

Did I leave anything out?

18. ....

-One dedicated to all of the children who die from hunger because once the precious fetus is born it's not worth caring about any more.
-One dedicated to all of the homeless people who die on the streets for lack of what they need.
-One dedicated to all of the people with mental illnesses who were tossed out of various facilities under Ronnie Raygun's reign and perished because they couldn't fend for themselves without support services.
