Best. Newspaper. Editorial. EVAH!! "Taser this... FUCK BUSH"...
Edited on Sun Sep-23-07 07:24 PM by BlooInBloo
http://www.coloradoan.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070921/UPDATES01/70921018

A four-word editorial published in the student newspaper at Colorado State University has landed the paper’s student man-agers in hot water with campus administrators.

The Rocky Mountain Collegian on Friday published an editorial that reads, in total, “Taser this… F--- BUSH,” spelling out the expletive, along with an explanation that “this column represents the views of the Collegian’s editorial board.”

The second two words of the editorial are printed in extremely large print, about twice the size of a headline.

While the Collegian is editorially independent, CSU retains a measure of control though a 10-member faculty-student Board of Student Communications, which can fire the paper’s editor-in-chief, David McSwane.

That's why I could give a rat's ass about the south - there's no need to pander to them. If they want to step up and acknowledge what's right, great. If not, fuck them, and they'll benefit from Democratic policies. We're on the way to winning the great plains states.

2. I used to work on a college paper that was actually owned by the editor and some of his buddies
who had just graduated college. It was great. While it was still the "official" paper of the school, they administration couldn't tell us what to do, ever. We could say/do whatever we wanted, and we covered our operating costs with ads from local businesses.

The best part was that we frequently got letters from angry alumni telling us that we were misrepresenting the school, going straight to hell etc. and that they were going to call the Dean. Ha! Little did they know...

3. I was ready to cheer for your post and definitely that editorial.
But was there really a need to pull the "South" into your point?
We were ALL sold a phony bill of goods by greedy snake oil peddlers.
Condemning part of your countrymen won't bring us back together.

Edited on Sun Sep-23-07 07:36 PM by BlooInBloo
... is of course none of my business.

EDIT: The primary significance of little things like this editorial is that it's indicative of the realignment of the western states. The realignment of the western states is primarily significant because of the decades of Democrats beating their heads against the Southern Brick Wall. My talking about it was NOT unmotivated or capricious.

9. The South is unique. Not all Southerners are prejudiced, Republican
Freepers. There is nothing to be gained by "beating" against Southern people as a group.
Better to debate, educate and enlighten. The only person in my office listening to
Rush Limbaugh and his ilk, is a Northerner. Please, please stop.

11. Assume much? I wouldn't be a DU member if I didn't think the
political content of every post here was important, and you are free to
say whatever you want. I asked kindly. Your original words were
personal to Southerners: "I could give a rat's ass about the south..."
To a lot of us here in the South, that was Bush's attitude after Katrina....
Gee thanks, again, the Great Uniter.

Just think about it. I don't mind being lumped into a "Red State", hell,
I live in Red territory, but no one has thrown an egg at my DU sticker yet.

and quite a lot in California. Admittedly, Alabama is one
state known to not provide stats on hate crimes. Info from
DOJ, so also taken with a grain of salt.

29. The South is red to a great extent because of Diebold et al.
GA, FL, TX, and TN I think wd vote Dem, even be Dem strongholds, if the votes were counted fairly. Problem is the good ol boy network has a stranglehold on the political machinery in those states. It's been awhile since anything approaching democracy has existed in GA or FL or TX, e.g. You can't have a democracy when the vote is counted in total secrecy without verification. Even without the machines, there are so many hidden strings and levers that it's probably next to impossible to get a fair result in some elections.

Just saying.

AL is probably safely red, at least for the time being.

34. My sentiment too....
Just as I was about to hit recommend, there's that little snarf at the end against us Southerners. My old home of Jackson Co. TN and Davidson Co.(Nashville) went overwhelmingly for Kerry.

Granted many Tennesseans are idiots, but many are not. Things just aren't as simple and North/South anymore, friend. Please grow out of the civil war mentality.

"McSwane earned international attention when, as a high school senior, he pretended to be a high school dropout wanting to enlist in the military. McSwane, who at the time was 17, recorded video of a recruiter saying he would get help to cover up a supposed drug problem, and acquire him a fake high school diploma."

And a video about his work is right here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=385&topic_id=56843&mesg_id=56843

Apparently you're not into maps. Even maps from 2006 show the Great Plains states FAR MORE RED than the South.

This is a COLLEGE newspaper, for fuck's sake. I live in a highly Republican area and our university newspaper, which I worked for in college, is far more liberal than anything else.

I was expressing my opinion of an attention-whoring stunt by calling it an attention whoring stunt. "FUCK Bush." How courageous. How cutting edge. How completely meaningless, unless the editor wanted to call attention to himself and his college rag. Then: Mission Accomplished.

The poster's contempt for Southerners outweighs the merits of the OP.
