Poll question: Colleges and universities are politicized like all other institutions-True or False?
Edited on Sun Sep-23-07 07:53 PM by bobthedrummer
The factions ebb and flow, the funding from the RW, criminal and corporate interests are all part of this process, despite ethics and the mission of post-secondary education.

on edit: changed to "post-secondary"

1. I don't know how "all other institutions" are politicized, so I don't know...

... I do know from my time at various universities, that the faculties are generally comprised of very thoughtful and caring people.

2. My liberal seminary is being torn apart by conservatism.
The faculty tends to be quite liberal, the Board and administration lean far to the conservative. There are exceptions on both sides, but overall, I'd say the funding pressures are making the school pander to RW funders. :(

3. You mean postsecondary education?
Otherwise, why blame colleges for the state of high schools?

I don't think that colleges are EXACTLY as politicized as many other institutions, but the encroachment of the "business model" and infusions of corporate money have had a major impact, especially in the last 20 years. There is also the implicit bias of the university as a class institution; ideas that are dangerous to the survival of the first world, white bourgeoisie are intrinsically resisted.

5. I say false.... They are more politicized....
There a few companies that could stay in business long with the drag out (and often remarkable petty) fights university personal often subject themselves to.

A mixture of tenure and free time are a dangerous thing.
