Latest NASA Arctic Ice Photos
Edited on Sun Sep-23-07 08:20 PM by Hissyspit

A NASA satellite image from September 16, 2007 and released on September 21, 2007, shows Arctic summer sea ice. Arctic sea ice melted to its lowest level ever this week, shattering a record set in 2005 and continuing a trend spurred by human-caused global warming, scientists said on September 20, 2007. This NASA handout image shows an image of the Earth, taken in July. World leaders were gathering here Sunday for an unprecedented UN summit aimed at whipping up action against climate change. About 150 countries are taking part in Monday's one-off event, some 80 of them at the level of heads of state and government, United Nations sources said.(AFP/HO/File)

2. And all the Bush Boys see...
And all the Bush Boys see in these photos is all the oil and gas they can now drill for. And will.

In their very psychologically disordered world view, the only problem caused by global warming is hotter summers. And so all anyone needs to do is just lower the thermostat. Problem solved.

Can't afford to run the air conditioning? Get another job and stop complaining. They way they think. Not that they're really capable of thinking.

3. Oh, but the Northwest Passage is now OPEN FOR BUSINESS!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northwest_Passage

On September 14, 2007 the European Space Agency announced that ice loss had opened up the passage "for the first time since records began in 1978". According to the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment, the latter part of the 20th century and the start of the 21st had seen marked shrinkage of ice cover. The extreme loss in 2007 rendered the passage "fully navigable".<32><33> By which the ESA suggested the passage would be navigable "during reduced ice cover by multi-year ice pack" (namely sea ice surviving one or more summers) where previously any traverse of the route had to be undertaken during favourable seasonable climatic conditions or by specialist vessels or expeditions. The agency's report speculated that the conditions prevalent in 2007 had shown the passage may "open" sooner than expected. At least 3 boats successfully completed the journey in 2007.<34>

9. Are there any images prior to 2005?
It's hard for me to accept this tragic scenario, since it may cause the next ice age or worse. I know that locally, monthly temperatures fluctuate from year to year. Could this be partially due to such variances?

11. No. But if you go to
new.yahoo.com and click on the slideshows, check for a climate change slideshow - I think I found the info there.

13. My thoughts on global warming is that we are in the middle of...
a natural warming trend, that is exacerbated by man. We have had warming and cooling trends throughout history, it is historically a slow process. But along comes mankind, and dramatically speeds the process up.
