Gingrich seeks donors for GOP bid
By Ralph Z. Hallow
September 24, 2007

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told The Washington Times yesterday that funds raised over the next three weeks will determine if he will join the Republican presidential-nomination race.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will begin next week to seek financial commitments from donors for a presidential-nomination bid, the Georgia Republican told The Washington Times yesterday.

If he can get pledges for $30 million over the next three weeks, he will join the Republican presidential-nomination race — a prospect he had been downplaying until yesterday.

But the prospect of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York winning the Democratic nomination and the presidency is moving more voters to seek him out, he told The Times.

IMHO Newt would do more to consolidate the conservative Republicans than all of the current candidates combined. Though vulnerable to a morality attack because of his somewhat recent divorce, he doesn't carry the baggage of the other candidates. His speeches make Fred, the current savior, look like an idiot. He could reinvigorate the whole Republican Party and give them thoughts of retaining the White House and regaining Congress.

The Democratic party was given a chance in 2006. One that they have completely failed to capitalize on due to the lack of a veto proof majority. To say that the current Democratic candidates have superior leadership skills is more the I can mouth. The Democratic party has taken the safe road going into the 2008 elections.

Trying to allow the Republican Party enough rope to hang itself. That lack of courage may back fire in the voters minds. I for one am completely pissed at the lack of any real progress in stopping the Iraqi war. I voted for them to challenge, even futilely, President Bush at every step. Currently, President Bush and his administration out maneuver the Democrats at every step. The Democrats appear to be resigned to the status quo till the next elections. I didn't vote for that.
