Discovered the "Sacred Cow" here at my Right Wing Work Place
As far as "toleration" of my liberal proclivities, these people aren't TOO bad. Of course I do have to join certain acclimations like a member of some bizarre Greek Chorus, but normally I can handle that. This morning, I stepped on a land mine:

RONALD REAGAN.

When asked what "Contemporary Republican" living or dead I could stand as president (prefaced: CONSERVATIVE Republican; "Rocky" was disqualified), I replied Barry Goldwater (not 1964 style). To my shock, I was hooted down, so I replied with who these folks would choose. Three EMPHATIC and enthusiastic replies: RONALD REAGAN.

I have to admit that the mouth started without the brain in gear, but fortunately I got cut off at the knees before I could permanently jeopardize my position. The ground rules: say what I want about ANY Republican EXCEPT Saint Ronald; HE is off limits.

Seriously. I have never met such a completely delusional group of adults in my life. I ALMOST responded that NONE of these guys was RICH enough to be a "Real Republican," but I thought better of it and shut up.

My Monday Morning Wake-Up Call.

1. Bill Maher hit it on the head in one comment
Something to the effect of - "Republicans want to put Reagan on a stamp so they can lick his ASS".

He was dead on point.

2. You should've said "Reagan's not the worst President I've seen"
"Ever since Bush took office"

3. Hey, I try not to lie ALL the time here.
Without Reagan, Bush and his minions would not be possible, in my not so humble opinion.

When Nazis have a Hitler to rally around, they are much more dangerous than when they just mill about.

8. My apologies!
Actually, it ain't too bad here.

As long as I keep handing them, as the HAGAKURE says, small essential accomplishments, I am pretty much cool to do as I please.

9. I just got all excited about seeing my name in a subject line....
but regarding the actual content of your post, there certainly are some that truly believe he was the 2nd coming of Christ...

I was fairly young during his reign, so I don't really have a functional memory of the goings on (and my mind just can't even conceptualize 12% interest rates)...

7. Suggestion - say that Reagan wasn't so bad, but letting GHWBush have charge of the oil regions
wasn't his best move since it was Poppy who initiated IranContra, BCCI, and CIA drugrunning operations - all of which led this country straight to 9-11 and this Iraq war.

And I hope the next Dem president doesn't sweep all these matters under the rug - - yet again.

12. No, no. "King's Row."
Say reverently how Ronnie would have understood how our wounded, maimed veterans feel, because he played a man whose legs were removed by the actions of a self-important madman.

15. Where does Eisenhower stand in their pantheon of gods?
Do they think he was a dottering old fool or something? Ike had some problems like the Dulles boys, but in toto was not too bad of a president.

16. Eisenhower WHO?
I think they believe him to be a RINO, in the party just to get the office.

What do you think they would have expected from a president who said "In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist."

that Reagan was not that popular when he left office. His sanctification happened latter, largely due to Right-wing pundits building a myth.
