PA repukes tried to redistrict Tim Holden's (D) congressional seat into Gekas in hopes of eliminating Holden. Holden not only won that election but he also won his re-election against the son of legendary Penn State Football Coach Joe Paterno. These days PA-17 is considered leaning-safe democrat
