Republican candidate Fred Thompson maintains that, if he were running the country, he would deny Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad entry into the United States.

According to UN Headquarters Agreement of 1947, the US "shall not impose any impediments to transit," obligating the US to allow representatives of UN members, or those invited on "official business," to visit the UN. However, the government may bar entry based on national security grounds, but would have to provide specific allegations for banning Ahmadinejad.

"There are exceptions to every rule. This is our home soil," Thompson asserted on Bill Bennett's "Morning in America" talk radio show Monday morning, adding, "I wouldn't mind a little controversy at the United Nations."

Ahmadinejad -- who arrived in New York Sunday -- is to speak at Columbia University Monday. Thompson criticized the school's decision, claiming it shows a "double-standard" because, he says the university does not allow ROTC on campus.

"It's supposed to be a place of diversity and controversy and things of that nature ... but they're giving rank hypocrisy a bad name," Thompson said.

1. I've always felt that the UN should be in Switzerland
They're just taking up valuable real estate in New York anyway. And the diplomats never pay their parking tickets either.

4. Will the Senate censure Columbia for inviting Ahmadinejad to speak?
They did it to MoveOn.org. Columbia University is letting the Enemy speak freely.

6. Does Thompson not know that the U.N. Headquarters is not on American soil?

Actually, I don't quite get what he was trying to say. Is he OK with a visit to the U.N. but not Columbia?

7. What an asshole. By contrast, Hagel (my Senator) says, "why wouldn't
you allow him to speak, and then be questioned by the American people?" What the fuck do we have to be afraid of with this nutjob? Let him have to answer for his stupidity before the American people--Chuck is right on.

9. How do you deny entry when he is a member of the UN? Are we this weak
of a country that this loser's visit is so threatening to us?

12. It doesn't need to make sense just so it sounds good to his base.
By the time they find out he's full of shit he'll already have their votes.

10. Damn wish we real Americans could get a chance to give our views.
I'll tell every body...that the best thing for Americans would be to ban 'publicans from public office for about 50 years. Maybe by then we might have humans instead of monsters in that party

11. Thompson's just looking for a popular GOP primary position--Ahmadinejad
is a convenient and easy target to score some "atta boys!" from the Neanderthal base, who, BTW, wouldn't blink an eye about restricting free speech in this country.

13. Excellent, they all start to bleat exactly on schedule.
If America is ballsy enough to sit down for an interview with a now dead dictator, why not show the new man around? At least before we have him swinging from a rope in 5 years after we invade Iran?

Least we can do.

15. What the hell does Hollywood Fred know about anything?

He is without any doubt the most willfully uninformed and ignorant SOB in public life today. He probably only voiced an opinion on this topic because his handlers put it down on a piece of paper and he dutifully spoke the words as if they appeared on a script.

16. This Week's Talking Point
One thing you have to give Repugnicans credit for...they stay on the talking points...and they all seem to have the same ones.

Last week it was cloud the Petreus dog and pony show and cloud the rejecting of the Webb Ammendment with their attacks on MoveOn. This week it's going to whip up "outrage" at Columbia (damn librul academics...and surely Democrats) and the "Iran has nukes" boogie man to force the House and Senate to cave once again and give booshie 200 billion more for his mercenaries and war for profit.

The Aqua Velva Man is like the others in spewing the talking point spiced with some red meat for the braindead who support him or are "on the fence". The Repugnican primary game has boiled down to a "can you top this" on the latest talking point and who can whip up the most "outrage" and score the most "damage" with it.

I've been enjoying the Repugnican food fight as it goes from sublime to never-neverland...and how really detached these dead-enders have become from a majority of the American people.
