My understanding is that as the host country we are expected to allow people invited by the UN to enter the country. However, I would hardly say that's the same thing as the US inviting someone directly.

|
Do you think they liked being forced off their lands? Do you think they like being herded around the West Bank like cattle?
It is a very touchy subject but we cannot even discuss it on DU because the argument goes to fast to name calling and charges of anti-semetism. I think thats what he is trying to say.
Because of what happened to the Jews in the Holocaust, he is saying they get a free pass with that they do to the Palestinians.

|
Edited on Mon Sep-24-07 02:32 PM by seasonedblue
he seems to want the Palestinians to have a referendum about the state of Israel. I seem to recall that a good percentage of the Palestinian population left during the 1967 war, expecting the Arab states to wipe it off the face of the earth. I also recall that Jordan never invited the Palestinians to partition any of the Israeli land for a state when it was under their control.
It's not an easy issue to debate, which is why I never venture into the IP forum.

I am not a supporter of Israeli land acquisitions. Israel went beyond its original borders and I oppose that. The establishment of the state of Israel, from what I've learned, did not so much cause the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis, as did Israel's aggressive displacement of Palestinians in its grab of more land.
Ahmadinejad is wrong to think the Holocaust is why Israel is supported by the U.S. I think it has more to do with a strategic pro-American presence and possibly the large pro-Israel support in the U.S. which politicians are not willing to deal with. But the fact that he believes that the Holocaust is why Israeli aggression is tolerated is why he is a holocaust denyer. He thinks if he can get people to believe the holocaust wasn't "all that," then Israel would lose the support of the U.S. and other nations. His assumption is wrong and he's not winning any support by his approach.
Just so you know where I stand, I believe our relationship with Israel needs to change and our nation needs to see things from the Palestinian point of view, but our news media is biased toward telling the story from the Israeli point of view. If we changed our policies toward Israel, we would get somewhere toward more cooperative relationships with those Muslim countries that see us as the enemy because of our Pro-Israeli stance.
