Did Ahmadinejad.Comparing Being Gay To Narco-Trafficking?

I watched his entire appearance at Columbia University ...When he was questioned about the persecution of gays in Iran he went into a diatribe about drug trafficking and how Iran like the United States has the death penalty... It wasn't until he was pressed with a follow up question which had as its premise that the question was about gays and not narco-traffickers did he offer that "there are no gays in Iran."

Why , when asked about gays did he discuss narco-traffickers, unless he saw a nexus between the two?
