Tweety just bashed the president of Columbia, and his panel agrees that
his "introduction" of Ahmadinejad was a disaster.

6. Do you mean Bollinger?
Here's a link to his quotes.

3. Good for Tweety,
people may not like anything about Ahmadinejad but he is head of state and didn't deserve the ambush that his invite got him. IMO it was disrespectful and unnecessary.

4. I like Lee Bolinger a lot ... but
I think his introduction was a bit over the top at times.

He could have been clear that the university disagreed with what he has said in the past and how he is running things in his country, without resorting to calling him to his face "a petty dictator" or "uneducated." I was frankly a bit shocked by his tone. There were many things he said that were good, but the name calling should not have occurred. We are better than that, and I would hope Columbia is.

We never have anything to fear by someone talking, so it is overreaction to have to wield the hammer in preparation for someone's words.

5. I think we all
know another head of state that a statement like that could be made about.
"a petty dictator" or "uneducated."

7. Why did Columbia U invite him if they were not going to at least give
him a minimum of courtesy in the introduction? I can understand going full bore in the question period, but after some of the comments I heard on NPR when I was coming home today, I am embarrassed that Americans can be such "ugly Americans." As he said when he began to speak, and I am paraphrasing, in our country we show respect to guests.
