Backers launch petition drive to get Gore on Michigan ballot

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Al Gore seems more caught up with climate change than running again for president, but his Michigan supporters want to make sure he has the chance to be on the Jan. 15 presidential primary ballot if he decides to run.

They announced Monday that they've launched a petition drive to collect the 12,396 valid signatures they must submit to the secretary of state's office by Oct. 23 to get the job done.

Gore won Michigan in his unsuccessful 2000 presidential bid, but so far has not said he'll run again for the White House.

........

"We are doing this out of our conviction that Al Gore is the best qualified candidate for president," said Bob Alexander, co-chairman of the Michigan Draft Gore group. "We're hopeful that Al Gore may become an announced presidential candidate sometime in October."

1. I find this so stupid and a colossal waste of time. I also think it's pretty arrogant

to keep hammering and yanking at this man for his attention. What is it with people who do not understand "No", "I have no desire, etc.".... Al Gore is a wonderful man who has become involved with climate change globally. Believe it or not, it might be a little more important than being POTUS. I would think the Dems in Michigan had more important things to do...Flame away, I'm just sick of Al Gore being included in the candidate list when the man could not be any clearer...Geez.

2. "No" means "no".
And when Gore actually says "no", that will be the end of it.

And so I ask: what's so hard about saying "no"?

5. I freaking wish!
 My uncles had to go to Vietnam whether they wanted to or not.

I think that's why it's called "drafting."

6. Michigan residents prefer Gore in a recent poll
"When his name is included in the field, Gore gets 36 percent support compared to 32 percent for New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, 16 percent for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and 8 percent for former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, the poll shows."
