David Shuster subbing for Tucker (permanently I wish) just made MINCEMEAT out of Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn R-TN 07. First he asked her how Rush Limbaugh airing a caller who referred to Sen. Chuck Hagel as "Senator Betray Us" was somehow okay, but the later MoveOn General Betrayus ad was such a big deal. She responded with some blather about how Rush didn't BUY AN AD, as if airing something to millions of listeners is somehow not important because, again, Rush didn't Buy An Ad.

Then David moved in for the jugular. He asked her, what is the name of the last soldier from her district killed in Iraq. Congresswoman Blackburn was forced to admit that she didn't know. David then told her. He was 18 years old (will check for this on C&L so I can get his name). He then reiterated his puzzlement about why it is that Congresswoman Blackburn knows so much about MoveOn.org, yet doesn't know the names of KIA from her own district--this was after she claimed that she and her staff "keep in touch every day" about what is going on with service people from her district.

THIS is how you respond to the Repubs about The Ad. David, you the man!!!

4. I do not think anyone should USE a dead soldier as a gotcha moment.

6. I agree. I don't expect my Congressman to know the names of all...
...the people in the district killed in action.

10. I would expect a Congressman to at least know SOMETHING about
the most recent casualty in his or her district--I can forgive not remembering the name, but the age? Unit? Circumstances? Something. ESPECIALLY when that Congressman knows all about the NYT's ad rates and circulation difficulties. That's a fair "gotcha"--it did no disservice to the dead soldier, but it did show where Marsha Blackburn's true agenda lies.

9. What if a reporters asks a Democrat that, and then says,
"how come you complain about what Rush Limbaugh said about Iraq when you can't even name the last soldier killed in Iraq?"

Is it fair to do that to Democrats?

11. Democrats aren't the ones who keep sending these soldiers to die--BIG distinction.

12. It may not be a fair question, but I was addressing a slightly different issue.
Namely, should we "exploit" those who have died in this war in order to try and save the next hapless victim of BushCo's lies?

I think that's at least worth considering and the post I was responding to seemed to imply (particularly by the capitalization of 'USE') that it was somehow inappropriate to do so. I'm not sure it is.

As to whether it was reasonable to expect her to know that name, that's a bit different.

Still, the warmongers are always pretending that their concern is for the troops and implying that their opponents aren't being supportive. Even if the question was a bit unfair, it serves to remind people that the pubs are really addressing politics and not the welfare of the actual troops.

The troops would be a whole lot better off if we brought them home, after all. Even the ones who would express disappointment at not completing their "mission" would be better off!

5. Every time he's on instead of Tucker, he totally kicks asterisk.
I love that guy, either he needs to have his own show or (much to be preferred) he needs to replace Tucker on this one instead. Let's start a mass email campaign demanding it, stat.
