Get this.... I put up an ad for a temp contract Web design job LOCALLY....
And we get an email and a resume from INDIA!

I told de boss that if he wants to farm off the contract job in India..... then by all means go for it, but I'd rather keep it here locally.

He wants 9-12 bucks an hour..

Normal WD rate is about $12-15 an hour.

4. $45-$60 aren't
$15 is idiotic. Go find a different line of work if you have to undercut everybody to stay in business.

7. $12-15/hr! HOLY SHIT!
I just did a rush design job last weekend and was bummed because I agreed to work on a flat-fee basis, and it worked out to $70/hr. I was hoping to finish it fast enough to net my corporate rate of $120/hr, but was way over-generous with the re-dos and AA's.

I won't answer the phone for $15 an hour. How do designers survive anymore?

9. Hell, I come in on the low side in my area...
...and rarely see less than $45/hr. More for Flash work.

But most of my client base is local, and they get to see my smiling face from time to time. I think that makes a difference.

Let's see you do that, web designer in India. :)

and how much of a rush job he wants..

Sorry if I insulted you WD's out there.. I had no idea that it goes up a lot...

They're looking at 20-25 hour work on the website.

You guys give me a ballpark figure how much you'd charge for that much work.

BTW - it's a cycling website.. I suck at web design, but here it is...

12. I don't think you suck
I like the color scheme.

I tried web design from home just as the do-it-yourself sites started taking off. I was - am - good at color themes, etc., and I can create a really nice basic site, but you can't charge much for those. I didn't have the time to concentrate on learning the more complicated Flash techniques, I had to jobhunt, so I had to give it up for a 9-5 job. :( Broke my heart, I enjoyed it.

19. Damn..It Does..Doesn't it? I guess I should make it clear,,,,I wasn't..
.."Knocking" the poster or anything....

Seems like they need a Pro to work on their image and (of Course) get rid of that horrible Fruit Basket.
I suppose, who ever made it had in mind an "i" (me) between two Wheels but it just doesn't pull together like that...

I should talk though..My Site is not done yet after 5 months...Typical case of the Mechanic driving a Clunker!

17. What's going in it?
How many pages will there be? Will there be custom work done on photos? Are there photos? News feeds? Online catalogs?

Anything?

22. Something I learned early on
10% of your male audience is red-green colorblind. There has to be more contrast or objects will look gray to them and blend into the background.

14. I'm lucky
I work with really good designers so the boss of our small company can charge pretty good prices. It keeps me employed as I take their pretty websites and make them work (programming the database-driven part of it).

21. I always like to say
You get what you pay for.. Do people want the $200 logo, and look like a cheapo company and lose potential large clients, or do they want to look like a quality site?

My wife and I are full service, Flash and All - and I've even won an Award in Hollywood for my work..

Hell, I'm typing this reply on my IPhone - got one of the firsts, figured we could Re-purpose a LOT of websites to be IPhone capable as with the New IPod combined with the IPhone there will be 15% of the American Public using one or the other!

There should be a revolution in design of the web on that account alone..

If you need someone to Fake being from India, I can do that too..
