The Democratic party needs to run campaign commercials in the 2008 elections
using Southerners with the thickest southern drawls from all over the former confederacy who support the Democratic party and begin denouncing the Republican candidate for his or her lack of compassion for the less fortunate, for leaning too much to the wealthy, and big business, and for looking into people's sexual and reproductive lives.

Once Southerners do this for election after election independents in the South will get used to hear people with thick Southern accents denoucing the Republiklan party.

This will begin to dismantle the Southern Strategy created by Nixon and his henchmen in the Republiklan party.

Southern Democrats need to take over Southern Culture and denounce the Republicans as the fakers and bigots ( real bucking figots ).

3. We need to reverse the branding of the GOP as the manly choice of party
Edited on Tue Sep-25-07 04:20 AM by rudy23
and as the party choice for "normal" women.

I think that's far more important than the accent. I think a large percentage of the voters make their choice according to what reflects back onto their self image.

As a Southerner, I don't think you can get out there and fake it with a Democratic platform, and pull it off. Even the freepers down here aren't that dumb. Now, if you go for a fake drawl, and run on a Republican platform, people are more likely to accept it.

Also, our President is a good actor. He's not a moron, he knows what he's doing in that regard, and maybe that regard only.

5. Wow
that's insulting. And I'm not offended easily.

Maybe republicans should use African-Americans or Homosexuals with strong northern accents denouncing the democrats. Remind me not to hire you for my media consultant when i run.

7. There was a Paul Krugman piece in the paper today.
It was about the GOP's sucking up to Southerners and what it has meant for their party (Nixon's Southern Strategy) and how it'll likely be the end of the GOP. Seems that while over 60% of white Southerners voted for the GOP candidates in recent elections, white Southerners in general are becoming a smaller and smaller piece of America as Hispanics and other minorities increase in numbers.

So I think the OP's point is good - if we can convince even a portion of that more than 60% of white Southerners to switch back to voting for Democrats, then the GOP will fall even farther, faster.

10. In other words, a Democratic "Southern Strategy". No thanks.
Sick of pandering to the deep south, and the concessions the party has to make to appeal them.

The Democratic party has moved as far as it can to the right to appease these people. If it moves any further right, it will become the Republican party.

12. I did not say pander to Southern freepahs

I meant for Southern progressives to do commercials condemning Southern Freepahs and the Republiklan party.

I don't mean to ask the Democratic party to move to the right.

Let America see some Southerners that condemn the Republiklan party.
