David Vitter Earmarks $100,000 of Taxpayer Money for Anti-Evolution Group

KatRose: The Dems are still in control, right? How is someone like this even allowed to tack something like this onto a bill?

This post, written by KatRose, originally appeared on Pam's House Blend
From The Times Picayune (via Crooks and Liars):

Sen. David Vitter, R-La., earmarked $100,000 in a spending bill for a Louisiana Christian group that has challenged the teaching of Darwinian evolution in the public school system and to which he has political ties.

The money is included in the labor, health and education financing bill for fiscal 2008 and specifies payment to the Louisiana Family Forum "to develop a plan to promote better science education."

Uh huh...just like J. Michael Bailey wanted to "help" transsexuals via The Man Who Would be Queen.

I think that, given that the Dems have no backbone whatsoever when it comes to standing up to the Iraq War lies, it is our duty to force them to make a stand on this illegal contribution to anti-constitutionist nutcases piece of pork. They ran on ethics in '06; they implicitly stand for science over ChristoBush mythology - so they damn well better be willing to not simply cut this tumor from the bill but also make a spectacle of it - and this clown's psycho-hypocritical 'morals' - in the process.

The Dems are still in control, right? How is someone like this even allowed to tack something like this onto a bill?

If the Dems aren't willing to stand up to something like this, then we're all kidding ourselves if we thik they'll ever do anything of any substance.

Note from Pam Spaulding: Raw Story reports that the Louisiana Family Forum is the brainchild of Tony Perkins, a former Louisiana state lawmaker and head of the Family Research Council. Perkins, btw, is tied to former KKK Wizard David Duke. He paid Duke $82K for his mailing list.

1. I wish the msm would to a special coverage of all those that have been cut
much needed funding in the past several years while such meaningless issues like this one even come into play regarding tax money and get it with little fanfare no questions asked.

And it should be titled "what are the most important Republican priorities with regards to government aid in funding institutions?"

3. Isn't that special
the honorable senator wants to ensure that little boys and girls know who created whores by giving money (YOUR TAXES DOLLARS) to people who hate the constitution. Louisianians should be very proud.

And lets repeat - tony perkins IS TIED TO THE KKK.

4. That Perkins/KKK tidbit was news to me, too, though not much
surprises me anymore. And yes, he's trying to pull this with OUR TAX DOLLARS.

7. If I was trying to raise money from idiots I'd buy the KKK mailing list as well.
That aside this is beyond the pale appalling. The government simply has no business giving money to a church so said church can promote whatever wacky idea it came up with. (On a side note to the Louisiana Family Forum they came out with a New Testament recently you may want to check that out.) Between Democrats with half a brain and Republicans with half a soul this should have no chance of existing. Kill it on separation of church and state grounds, kill it on fiscal conservative grounds, heck kill it on competitive advantage overseas grounds.

The government doesn't need to spend money to make Americans more ignorant they are perfectly capable of doing that themselves.
