Poll question: Is Iran a terrorist nation? |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-25-07 11:50 AM by Flabbergasted
In response to this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=1898826&mesg_id=1898826At first I was going to look through and try to find posts saying: "Iran is not a terrorist nation" but thought this would be easier. BTW I'd say state sponsor of Terrorism is more accurate.

1. We need to define exactly what a terrorist nation is or |
|
rather a state sponsor of terror - then see how many governments fit the profile.

7. Is *that* what you mean to be asking? Is it a *state sponsor* of terrorism? |
|
Because that's *not* what the question says.

11. For all practical purposes the two are synonmous.... |
|
The outcome is the same. I'm not going to split hairs on definitions.

4. You know, I hear those charges all the time... |
|
but, how do we know it's the truth? For example, when the Israel/Lebanon fight was going on...the first reports said that Lebanon had captured Isrelis on Lebanon's side of the border...and, then the story, magically, was changed.
I don't know who to believe any more. I know I don't trust ANYTHING coming from the present State Department, Defense Department, etc. I don't trust Olmert, or Ahmadinejad, or Maliki, or Bush, or anyone else right now.

6. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter |
|
"By the rude bridge that arched the flood Their flag to April's breeze unfurled Here once embattled terrorist stood And fired the shot heard round the world."
With apologies to Ralph Waldo Emerson.

"Terrorist nation" implies that the primary goal of the nation is terror, and that all of its citizens support that activity. I don't believe that to be so. I'd wager most folks in Iran just want to have peaceful lives.
Now, I also won't claim that Iran is the land of rainbows and unicorns. Their government doubtlessly has its hands in all manner of bad things, much like other governments closer to home.
