Michael Vick indicted by state grand jury in dogfighting case
SUSSEX, Virginia (CNN) -- A Virginia grand jury has indicted suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick and three co-defendants on state charges of running a dogfighting ring at Vick's Virginia home, prosecutors said Tuesday.

The Surry County grand jury brought two charges against Vick: one count of unlawfully torturing and killing dogs and one of promoting dogfights. Each is a felony charge that could result in a five-year prison term.

Vick, 27, faces a possible prison term of 12 to 18 months after his August guilty plea to a federal conspiracy charge of bankrolling a dogfighting operation from his home outside Newport News. He faces sentencing on December 10 in U.S. District Court in Richmond.

He pleaded guilty after three associates -- Purnell Peace, 35, of Virginia Beach; Quanis Phillips, 28, of Atlanta, Georgia; and Tony Taylor, 34, of Hampton, Virginia -- admitted their roles in the operation and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors.

2. Each could get him 5 years
Not long enough, but I'll take it.

3. If he gets the 15
if not run concurrently with his 1-1.5 potential stint for the feds, he could be 40-something when he's out (should he serve full terms, which he never will, obviously). That's his career. Over.

Hope the dogfighting world takes a good look at this.

5. not long enough?
I am all for him being punished but you dont think 5 years per charge added on to the Fed time is long enough?

There are murderers and rapists who dont get that much time.

6. I don't.
I also think that murderers and rapists should spend much more time behind bars.

7. Two wrongs don't make a right
rapists and murderers should also be serving longer sentences, and those who get life for selling a joint need to have their sentences reduced.

Vick is accused of killing dogs with his bare hands in horribly cruel ways. Yes, 5 years isn't enough.
