What am I not getting about Ahmedinejad? |
|
I can understand the left's dislike of him - holocaust denier, country unfriendly to homosexuals, etc., but what exactly is fueling all the vitriol coming from the republicans? What have I missed? Is it because they're itching to start a war with Iran? Do they believe they have proof that he's helping insurgents? Did he threaten to wipe us off the map?
We've had loonies who happened to be rulers of other countries visit us before - what's the difference now?

1. Because he's a repressive, gay hating, fundy kook who happens to worship the WRONG deity. |
|
If he worshipped the right one, there'd be no prob.

I'm not convinced Fred Phelps and Jesse Jackson worship the "same" Christian "God". I think it's kind of a meaningless debate.
From where I sit, it's like trying to measure the horn on a unicorn.

10. No that's not it either. The Republicans love the Saudis. |
|
It's because Iran won't play ball with the Republicans, like the Saudis.

12. That's probably got something to do with it. |

Frankly, I think our big mistake down there was overthrowing Mossadegh in the 50s. But what do I know.

16. The U.S.'s big mistake from day one was building a country based on imperialism |
|
genocide, and land-grabbing. We continue that behavior right up to the present.

2. Obviously they're not worried about anti-semitism or homophobia. |
|
the right wing hates Ahmadinejad for the same two reasons they support the war in Iraq.
A small minority wants to profit off of oil/arms sales. The large majority wants to blow up muslims.

3. That he's got about as much real power as the governor of Texas |
|
has. He can't wipe his nose without approval from the Ayatollah and the council of Mullahs. He's basically a mouthpiece with no real teeth. Still, he's the visible head of a government and should have been treated with civility, something Bollinger was clearly incapable of.
He's also on his way out unless Stupid does something totally idiotic, like Israel wants him to. He made promises to the rural people that he could not keep and his party lost a tremendous amount of support in the last election. He'd be out if Stupid didn't keep threatening to nuke his country.
Yeah, he's a jerk, but he was elected in response to the jerk who was appointed in this country. He can't do much to act out his jerkiness. Our jerk can.

15. Yep-- folks here and, uh, in other camps seem to miss that point in |
|
their bid to 1) ratchet up the hate and 2) feel good about their self-righteous selves.
It's so much easier to hate than to think it appears.
