If we don't go full-scale attack on this one, I am afraid we will never stand up for anything - simply because there will never, IMO, be more of a "winning" issue than this one.

So, if we back off, it will be a tremendously disheartening thing. It will truly signal a lack of spine, a lack of determination, and yes, even a lack of political astuteness. When will the Dems figure out how much support they would have for actually lifting 2 fingers for the poor and the struggling middle-class?

What does everyone here think?

1. The fact that it is even an "issue" saddens me.
What kind of advanced and civilized society makes the healthcare of its citizens an issue to be even debated?

(I'm not attacking you Bonobo, just merely musing aloud about the absurdity of it all)

2. The window of opportunity has already passed.
We should've been making a stink about it when he said he would veto three weeks ago.

barely a peep out of the corporate media.

3. Yes, there is a better issue:
Healthcare for ALL, regardless of age, income levels, etc..

Universal healthcare as a human right.

My son isn't a child. He's an adult. He wears broken glasses (6 years old, hasn't seen a dentist or a doctor in a decade, since he turned 18 and was no longer covered by my insurance. That includes the two times he was bitten by a black widow spider, a broken finger, a broken toe, and a (shallow) knife wound from a desperate meth addict.

He works. He lives from paycheck to paycheck, does not get paid for "sick days," and makes enough to ensure a roof, transportation to work, food, utilities, and adequate clothing. Basic needs. There is nothing left for insurance or for office visits.

Of course all children should be getting health care, but shouldn't all PEOPLE have equal access? Do we quit caring about health care for people when they become adults, like the rw quits caring about "life" after it exits the vagina?

HR 676.

4. This is the ONE issue that can define the evil in the Republic Party
You have to be a deeply uncaring, cold and arrogant person to not support children's health care. You might be the kind of person that would put a dog on top of your car and drive across the country.

5. If Dems can't push for health care for ALL, then what is the point?

7. Pelosi promised the issue would haunt bush if he tries to undo what
Congress wants to do. But those are just words.

8. The Gopers can hang themselves on this one; they are so despicable that
they probably will or will try. More's the pity for the children.
