EDIT #2: NOW I GET IT. I just got this email today indeed. IT was from DAvid Swanson, from AFter Downing Street. He is drawing attention to the fact that Conyers hasn't done anything about this since the email went out last year. In fact at the top of the email it says:

"Ruled false advertising.
Refund requests and information on possible class action: (202) 225-5126"

---------------------------------

Is There a Case for Impeachment?

I appeared last week at a Harper’s Magazine forum which addressed the conduct of the Bush Administration and whether it has committed crimes that rise to the level of impeachment. A crowd of 1,500 enthusiastically heard from several experts and me as we discussed the tyranny of a President acting to commit a fraud against the United States.

I need your help to build the case for an impeachment investigation.

I have conducted an exhaustive study on this subject and believe that we must begin the process to investigate this administration for possible impeachable offenses. As former congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman noted at the forum, a groundswell of public support is necessary for impeachment proceedings to succeed. There was overwhelming public support for pursuing a case against Richard Nixon, while these same conditions did not exist when the Republicans tried to impeach President Clinton. Public opinion is on our side and now is the time to make a difference.

I have introduced House Resolution 635 to create a special committee to investigate whether the president's misconduct rises to the level of impeachment. 29 Members of Congress have already joined me as cosponsors. Lend your support. Help build momentum to enact this legislation by joining the more than 42,000 concerned Americans who have already signed on as Citizen Cosponsors at: http://johnconyers.com/citizencosponsors, or encourage your friends to sign up.

Edited on Wed Sep-26-07 10:19 AM by Whoa_Nelly
I found a copy of that email on this site:
http://drinkingliberally.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6425&sid=fcef0e43881a841fc92b31a64bbd4155

And from afterdowningstreet.org, it was an email from March 13, 2006

8. That's right, I remember watching this forum on CSPAN, it had John Dean and Sam Seder as well. Sam
was hosting it. I remember everyone got upset because Conyers said we had to investigate before we could even discuss whether impeachment was warranted or not.

12. That's a link to sending email to tell others to sign up
Edited on Wed Sep-26-07 10:24 AM by Whoa_Nelly
So, I sent one to myself, and in the email received it shows the same html graphics sign up to send to friends.

Am thinking that because the email originally posted for this thread is actually an email from March 13, 2006, that there is no cosponsor group to join anymore.

13. THIS IS OLD STUFF....
I googled H.R. 635, and they were pushing this legislation in January of 2006, BEFORE the elections that put the Dems in the majority in Congress....I guess they were using it as an election ploy...because once the Dems were put in the majority...Conyers quit pushing for impeachment.

Sorry, I'm not signing up....all that will be accomplished is getting my e-mail address added to some list.

When I see the leadership start pushing for impeachment, I'll support stuff like this. Until then, not.

A url that talks about this: Notice the date on the letter:

19. It was just another dog and pony show,
a performance put on in an attempt to fool voters into thinking they were doing something when they were actually doing nothing. Some people are fooled by this crap, but "...you can't fool all the people all the time".

14. (yawn) Conyers is not serious about this. He has been making pronouncements on
Impeachment for a long time now. My guess is that he knows that none of the leading Dem candidates want Impeachment to overshadow the upcoming campaign. Even if he started today it could be drawn out past the end of this term.
