House condemns MoveOn.org's Petraeus ad
By ANDREW TAYLOR, Associated Press Writer
6 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The House on Wednesday overwhelmingly voted to condemn the liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org for a recent advertisement attacking the top U.S. general in Iraq.

By a 341-79 vote, the House passed a resolution praising the patriotism Gen. David Petraeus, the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, and condemning a MoveOn.org ad that referred to Petraeus as "General Betray Us."

The liberal group's full-page ad appeared earlier this month in The New York Times and has served as a rallying point for Republicans. President Bush called the ad "disgusting" and criticized Democrats such as Sen. Hillary Clinton, the front-runner for the party's nomination, for being afraid of irritating the group.

"Such unwarranted attacks should be strongly condemned by Republicans and Democrats alike," said Rep. Jerry Lewis, R-Calif., during brief debate on the resolution.

Wisconsin Rep. David Obey, a veteran Democrat, recounted how he left the Republican Party during the era of Sen. Joseph McCarthy, R-Wis., and said that lawmakers have an obligation to criticize their allies as well as their enemies when they go too far.

3. IMO, Obey has forgotten his roots along with Kerry.
It's hard to be part of The Political RULING class in The Congress when all those *peasants* demand to be heard. The analogy to McCarthy is inane as us "little people" have NO POWER other than non-violent resistance ... WE, THE PEOPLE are no longer being represented by those who we send to Washington, D.C.

What hypocrites! :grr:

8. I thought when we voted Democrats in...
...that it would stop these silly, unneccessary votes that mean nothing, and lead to nothing.

Gee, guess I was wrong on that one.

10. Now Is This The End Of This Silliness?
I just wrote to my Congresscritter and congradulated her on making certain I'd avoid donating any money to her or work for her campaign this year and that in her honor, I'll be donating another $100 for the next MoveOn ad. I'm sure I'll get a "rapid response" (crickets).

Democrats remain captives to right wing talking points and feeling besieged. They're getting hit on all sides right now and their knee-jerk reaction to dance to the talking points is just pissing off Democrats even further. They've just pissed off 3.5 million fellow Democrats...people who put their money where their mouths are. Not a slick move and one I suspect will hurt DINOs for a long time. I sure won't forget.

If this "Speaker of the House" thing doesn't work out, there's always an anchor desk at Fox News.
