2. Ask 'em about the MoveOn vote in the House and Senate.
Anybody who condemns the MoveOn ad will never get my vote. Period.

8. Been There, Done That
Call it "too much of a good thing". Most of us have seen several of these "debates" so far. Some of us even have attended one in person. For the most part we know where all the candidates stand now...the similarities and differences, which is what a debate is supposed to do. Maybe there are those who are still undecided and THIS could be the debate that makes or breaks a candidacy but I doubt it. This uncommitted Democrat remains so and many others I know couldn't be bothered with yet another debate...wake them up in January when it's getting close to time to vote.

12. I've got the debate running in the background.
I think the numbers in New Hampshire are coming out heavily for Clinton.

Frankly, I could vote for her without hesitation.

If she wins the nomination, it will prove me wrong. I discussed the nature of the presidency thirty years ago on my WEEI and WMEX radio programs, projecting that there will be a black male in that office before there would be a woman, either white or black.

15. Thank Goodness For DU and The Tubes
I'm being a couch potato...jumping between two baseball games (sorry Cub fans, they're still behind), Ken Burn's "The War" (that I'll watch back uninterupted later), the debate and several internet radio stations. Just another quiet night.

I've got plenty of issues with Hillary, as I'm sure most here do, but I look at a bigger picture. First, if she wins the most votes in the primaries, no matter how the some DU fairies wish it to be otherwise, the base of the Democratic party have spoken. I lived in Iowa in '88 and saw upclose how the caucus system works. It's the best organization that wins...and if Hillary has it, so be it. The same I'm told applies to New Hampshire. These people have had months to meet the candidates, digest the issues and if she comes out of these primaries, as well as Feb. 5 with a large lead, the nomination is hers. Then, for those who can't "ever ever" vote for Hillary, then what?

Next, while I wish for a true Progressive to be our leader, this country isn't ready for it...nor are we in the shape to go from one extreme to the other. Whomever takes over on 1-20-09 will inherit major messes that will take both years and skill to manuever through and clean up. And if the choice boils down to Hillary...and this is what other Democrats have decided to put their money and votes into, who am I to condemn. I can either support, sit it out or find some third party to throw a vote away on.

This reminds of me 1980...I wasn't too hot on Carter running for re-election. I had hoped that Mo Udall would have run and then that Teddy Kennedy would win the nomination...and I even flirted with voting for John Anderson (anyone remember him??)...but in the end the thought of Raygun as President was so repulsive I voted for Carter. In retrospect, I'm prouder of that vote now than I have ever been.

BTW...I almost ended up at WMEX when Greater Media owned it...then I found out Arnie Woo Woo Ginsburg had long since left.

Hope all is well...

Cheers...

:hi:

16. Hi KharmaTrain! What year did Greater Media own WMEX?
I heard a lot about Arnie Ginsburg -- but never knew him. I moved from Miami to Boston in 1972 to work for WEEI, and when they went to all news, I became their movie critic. Back on WMEX around 1976 or so. Finally dumped out of radio to go into sales in 1983. Now the wheel has come full circle. Oregon Public Broadcasting is starting a 9 AM call in talk show in January 2008. I am not going to host it, but might have some other responsibilities -- undefined as yet.

17. This Was Around 1990...
They'd moved from 1510 to 1150...they were looking to turn it into News/Talk at the time but the other half wasn't too hot on uprooting our family again for a radio job I didn't think would last long. I think the format came and went in less than 6 months.

I first heard Arnie on a record collection called "Crusin'" back in the early 70's...it featured a recreation of one of Arnie's WMEX shows...then I also recorded a reunion he hosted on WBZ (with fading and crackles...recorded 1,000 miles away) circa 1972. His schtick sounds obnoxious to modern ears, but in the early 60's, this guy owned Boston.

Congrats on the OPB program...definitely keep me (and the rest of DU) posted on the developments. There are days I miss not playing the talk radio wars, then I talk to someone "in the biz" and hear yet another horror story and I am content playing in my own little world or venting here on DU.

Cheers!

:hi:

14. well she's laughing it off and taking up lots of time and Russert just let her roll even after
she said "Obama and Edwards can answer this as well" or something like that. I don't blame her btw, she's getting away with it so she's going to use the opportunity afforded her.

10. I like Tim a lot. He's not always perfect (who is?), but at least there is a mind at work.

He comes from a working class family in Buffalo, New York. His books are excellent.

From Wikipedia:

In 2004, Russert penned a bestselling biography, Big Russ and Me, which chronicled his life growing up in a predominantly Irish working-class neighborhood in South Buffalo as well as his education at Canisius High School. Russert's father, a World War II veteran held down two jobs after the war, conveyed to his young son, through the methods of the "carrot and the stick," the importance of maintaining strong family values, the reverence of faith, and of never taking a short cut to reach a goal. He claimed to have received over 60,000 letters from people in response to the book, detailing their own experiences with their fathers. In 2005 he released Wisdom of Our Fathers: Lessons and Letters from Daughters and Sons, a collection of some of these letters, which also became a bestseller.
