Great LTTE in our local paper (and funny, too)
Opened up our morning paper this morning and laughed out loud at this letter. Enjoy!

September 27, 2007

War supporters should join battle

With our nation-building experiment in Iraq not exactly going according to plan and our troop surge not exactly getting the desired results, I would like to submit the following modest proposal.
Let's have Congress introduce the Unlimited Support and Auxiliary Corps Of Workers to Augment and Redouble Deployment Act, or USA COWARD Act. Its provisions shall be as follows:

1. All able-bodied Iraq war supporters under 50 shall be drafted into the military and sent to Iraq immediately, to remain deployed until ultimate victory is achieved.

2. All able-bodied Iraq war supporters over 50 shall be drafted into a new organization known as Civilians Helping In Certain Key Enterprises as Needed, or CHICKEN. This group shall fulfill a variety of non-combat supplemental functions, such as cleaning latrines and staffing freedom fries stands in Baghdad markets.

While it's great that so many Iraq war supporters have heroically chosen to stay behind and cheer on our troops from the comfort and safety of their homes, the team needs fewer cheerleaders and more players now.

And besides, there's no danger involved; everyone knows that Baghdad is just as safe as any average town in Indiana, right?

Richard Snowden

5. Oh that is good. And now shall be passed among friends
I just went to the link and talk about irony. This letter is right above a letter talking about Republican Fun Day in Aurora. For the children. The same children whose health care they want to cut. I believe that is IRONY

8. Yep. Kane County is RED
And to add insult to injury, Denny Hastert is our rep. There's been quite a hullaballoo about a planned parenthood clinic going up in neighboring Aurora here. Read all about it in yesterday's paper, along with how fundies are praying for the Cubs to win this year.

I just moved back to this area in April, and it was a whole lot bluer back in the rural area of Missouri I came from, so this letter was quite refreshing to see.

16. Oh... LOL.
I thought maybe their manager or owner or star player was a big fundie nut and they wanted them to win to show how Christians win.

7. Excellent letter.
The only problem is, as we all know from seeing many Young Republicans interviewed, many of these young men and women are tragically not able-bodied, by their own admission, which is why they aren't at the front lines right now. We need to find something for such sadly disabled but eagerly patriotic individuals to do to support the war effort. Perhaps they could babysit the children of suddenly-single parents who must work now that their spouse is absent or dead. Maybe they could aid the newly blinded, or brain-damaged, or legless, or armless veterans to function by driving them around, or providing intimate care or, perhaps, employing them. Oh, there's LOTS to be done, even for the flat-footed. :eyes:
