Criminal, absolutely criminal. This guy got so emotional when talking about what the troops are being exposed to due to Haliburton's criminal negligence. :(

6. Is this a major issue? |
|
While clean water is certainly an absolute top priority, probably more important than ammunition, I'm not sure that his report raises a real issue.
1) From the time I hit the ground in 2004, we were told to use bottled water for brushing teeth, drinking, etc. There is bottled water EVERYWHERE. There are signs on most sinks and showers - "Non-potable water. Do not drink."
2) He mentions malaria in the water. That was interesting, but for two things; a) both in the military and as a civilian I was required to take anti-malaria medication before and during deployment, and b) according to the CDC website, malaria is a blood-borne disease that can only be passed by mosquito bite, not by skin contact with water.
(Side note: I'm lazy and don't use the bottled water for brushing my teeth; I use the tap. I've been over here 39 months, and the only time I got sick was when one of the locals brought us some food his wife had made for us. The four of us who ate it had diarrhea for a week.) :)
I have no problem slamming a company if they are wasting my tax dollars or putting me and the soldiers I work with at risk - I just like to see as many facts on the table as possible.

7. And the Iraqi civilians have access to the bottled water for cooking? |
|

8. I don't think the Iraqi civilians use Halliburton water. |
|
And what does malaria have to do with it, since (as I pointed out), it is spread by mosquito bites, NOT contact with water?
