I can only see it as wishful thinking that Al Gore - an enlisted or drafted Al Gore - would help save America from the Bushies. If he had really wanted to get in the race he would have done so already.

The only reason people want to see Gore run is because they're dissatisfied with Clinton, Obama and Edwards. Frankly, so am I. But I'm only dissatisfied because they're not charging into this the way that nearly everybody here feels - angry, outraged, ready to bust heads.

But he needs to give a hellfire sermon, especially on matters he should be expected to scream about, such as black teenagers being lynched and segregated in the present day. And black people being driven out of their homes like the Amerinds off their lands, except without reservations.

And Edwards...why did he let Ann Coulter get away with calling him gay? Why did he need his wife to defend himself? If a man truly believes in sexual equality he should be able to scream imprecations - even curse words, which cannot be censored by federal law in a campaign ad - at a woman. (Assuming, that is, that Coulter is a woman and not a clone made from Bill O'Reilly's falafel in the bathtub.)

Anger means passion. Passion, not for war or greed or rape, but for righting wrongs, ending outrages and making America mean something positive to the world again. If the "big three" candidates aren't doing their job - getting screaming angry - tell them. Deny them funding and tell them it's because they aren't angry about Bush and the thugs running our country. Tell them to do the jobs they claim they want to do.

But don't go hoping for Al Gore to come in and save your hash. That's the real meaning behind my "tears" remark. I think Gore doesn't want to run because we - all of us, the Democratic Party and progressives in general - don't deserved to be saved from our own passivity.

I’m under no illusion that there’s any position in the world as influential as that of president. But it doesn’t feel like the right thing for me to be a candidate at this point. I have had the experience of seeing how necessary it is to have adequate support among the people as a whole for the dramatic policy changes that are needed. It may well be that the best use of whatever skills and talents and experiences that I have gained is to concentrate on creating that sea change in mass opinion about this issue, so that whoever is elected will face a groundswell from the people themselves.

As much as I like Al Gore, and think he would be a great President, and wish every day for the past six years he was our President instead of the poor excuse for the President we currently have, I don't think Al Gore should run.

Why not? Simply put, Republicans will make it seem that Gore's run is all about avenging 2000, and the media will gladly parrot those claims ad nauseum. Everything good that Al stands for will be pushed aside, and it will all be about how Gore is so bitter about what happened six years ago and how he has "sour grapes".

Plus, the ridiculous slanders against him--that he's "boring", that he somehow took sole credit for "inventing" the internet, that global warming is some "junk science" and how he's somehow some huge hypocrite for not walking every single place he goes--all of that is going to be dredged up by the pond scum on the right and thrown at him all over again. The "rock star" Al Gore image has become over the past few years will soon vanish, and the Republicans will be trumpeting the same lies they did in 2000, and it will distract from the rightful message of Al's campaign.

If you doubt the Republican's ability to distract from the true issues and the media's complictiness in letting them control the conversation, let me ask you why the Petreaus hearings became all about a single newspaper advertisement instead of why the hell we are still in Iraq?

I love Al. I really do. But I worry that people are overestimating the strength of his campaign, given the nature of those on the right and what they are willing to say and lie about.

Voted against the AUMF, the MCA, the Patriot Act, FISA protect America act, against all funding for the war-occupation. Only candidate to agree to end NAFTA and withdraw us from the WTO. Kucinich is the only candidate that will bring about real, meaningful change in this country, a country so close to total fascism and executive rule. You could substitute Gore's name for Kucinich on all of the above . They are so similar in what they hope to achieve. Since electability is not an issue in this presidential election...whoever wins the democratic nomination will be the next president...this is one of those rare times we don't have to compromise on getting the best candidate for president. Kucinich is the man. The real change for the better, for peace and prosperity and the environment. We can make it happen and just ignore all the political hype for once.

Because I'm convinced that a decision has not been made. Not even a date to make a decision probably exists. It's up to us to build the a platform that would suit him. But we should not expect that he will step onto it right away.

We try to keep Gore in double digits polling, keep the potential candidate discussion brewing (this is about the only use Gore has for the MSM in primary terms until they funally come clean on 2k). Gore will certainly stay in the spotlight. No guarantees, but I'd call it a good plan.

If you watch the Dem Primary debates from start to finish, you can learn something. I have good things to say about all of them (fav Dodd). But most of the nation only sees Gravel's rant? I mean, add the Don't Taze Me Bro to the audiance, and we get 45 munites of teasers from Blitzer. Toxic.

About the best thing from the Dem primary debates as seen through the media lens is the comparison to Republican debates. What a bunch of Neanderthal Scat they have.
