Poll question: Politics 101. Take a lesson from NARAL. They crushed Verizon today. |

Politics 101. Take a lesson from NARAL. They crushed Verizon today.
Women from NARAL called Verizon today in the thousands and in 2 hours. Yes 2 Hours forced verizon to rescind their censorship policies of not accepting pro choice text information.
They threatened boycotts for sure in my view if the policy did not change.
Now do what the people at NARAL did and call these companies. Will you do this?
Call GOP contributor and war contractor General Electric Corporation at 203 373 2211 and ask for the public relations department. Tell the person in public relations that you want the GE CEO to get Bush to end the war in Iraq and then Bush resign with Cheney and until that happens you will not buy any GE products and that you will tell your friends about this.
Call GOP contributor Rite Aid at 1-800-325-3737 and tell the person to get the CEO to get the GOP to enact HR 676 Single payer health care and repeal Medicare Part D and place the drug benefit in Medicare Part B covering 80% of drugs with no extra premiums, no extra deductibles, no means tests, no coverage gaps, and remove the means test for Medicare Part B and until that happens, you won't buy ANYTHING from Rite Aid.
Call GOP contributor Wendy's restaurants at 614 764-3553 and Tell the person in public relations that you want their CEO to get the GOP to help enact a $10/HR MIN. WAGE into law and until this happens you will not go to a Wendy's Restaurant.

1. email I got from NARAL. |

I knew that with your help we'd prevail.
Just a few hours ago the CEO of Verizon Wireless faxed me a letter confirming what you may have already heard: his corporation has reversed its "dusty internal policy" that blocked its customers from receiving text-messages they requested from us!
This was a massive victory. Our members, activists, bloggers, Capitol Hill, and other concerned citizens all joined in pressuring Verizon to reverse this decision. In just two hours you sent more than 20,000 messages to Verizon officials! This was a tremendous testament to our combined strength. Thank you!
It's ironic that when we sent a text message last week, the subject was Bush's global gag rule. While our domestic "gag rule" may now be cleared up with the Verizon corporation, there are still women around the world who don’t receive the information they request because the Bush administration censors international family-planning groups' free speech.
We didn't let Verizon get away with its outrageous policy - don't let Bush get away with his! Please take action today.
Thank you again for your support - we couldn't have won without you.
My best,
Nancy Keenan President NARAL Pro-Choice America
P.S. We'll keep the pressure on Verizon until we see its new public policy in writing!

NARAL had a problem with what Verizon was doing. Verizon could 100% fix the problem. People called, and Verizon fixed the problem.
You have a problem with what the president is doing, and you want people to call GE. GE cannot fix the problem. You don't even say "call GE and tell them you want the CEO to TELL Bush to resign." You want GE to actually MAKE Bush resign. The problem is not within GE's control.
If you wanted us to call Wendy's and threaten to boycott until Wendy's added to its franchise agreement a $10 minimum wage, you might get more traction.

Who gives money to the Republican party? Their friends at Wendy's GE and Rite Aid.
I saw that naysayers like you would draw this distinction without a difference. The GOP has insulated themselves from the public but their contributors do not appear insulated from the public. Attack the friends of the GOP and you get the legislation you want.
NARAL crushed Verizon in 2 hours. 2 Hours.

5. I think the New York Times crushed them |

Big ol' nasty front-page story today, with images of text messages and lots of information, plus linkage to "net neutrality" issue. Huge embarrassment for them. If it had just been Naral's mailing list, it wouldn't have been public and they wouldn't have given a shit.
So this is a story about what can happen when the PRESS does its job, not just an organization.
Verizon is not my carrier, but it is my sister's. When I read her the article about it this morning, she emailed Verizon right away and threatened to close her account if they didn't renege.
