Citizens Get Free Pass To Give Bombs To Police

By Associated Press

LIMA, Ohio -- Residents in a 12-county area of northwest Ohio are getting an opportunity to turn over grenades and other explosives, no questions asked.

The Lima Police Department bomb squad said that a key reason for its upcoming ammunition amnesty week is that more families are finding World War II "souvenirs" as veterans die.

The city bomb squad serves all of Allen County, as well as 11 surrounding counties.

Bomb squad technician David Parker said that lots of things are rattling around in residences. He said a truckload of explosives turned up during a recent hazardous waste collection day in the area.
